With its latest battle, Game of Thrones solidifies its seat on TV’s VFX throne

Notice that I said "if you've got a good source". Apparently, not having a good source led to the dissatisfaction many people experienced, for the reasons you noted. That said, if you're viewing content with a lot of blacks, you need a display that shows them well and many don't.

With its latest battle, Game of Thrones solidifies its seat on TV’s VFX throne

Yes, if you've got a good source, watching on a plasma or OLED display in a darkened room is the way to go. But to get the most detail from your picture you'll probably have to switch your settings to THX Bright Room or equivalent. Looked really impressive, but if you don't have the best of...

Feds strike another multi-national “tech support” scam

I'm just wondering why these people are being sued instead of arrested. What they were doing was clearly criminal, so why aren't they in jail?

As Formula E’s third season kicks off, car companies rush to get involved

It looks like the garage area they'd use at a race. The composition of the photo is horrible though. With matching colors used on the car and in the garage it's really hard to distinguish one from the other at a quick glance.

Gawker to declare bankruptcy, auction itself off in wake of Hulk Hogan lawsuit

I love to laugh and gloat when the famous, semi-famous and almost-famous are shamed and embarrassed when they are found to be getting some strange on the side. It brings a welcome ray of light into my dull and meaningless life! If this manner of 'investigative journalism' were to disappear, I...

Federal hacking conviction follows pro baseball scouting scandal

Obviously, there are different levels of 'hacking'. Using a password you already know is at the lowest "even a caveman can do it" level. Using social engineering to trick a help-desk peon into believing you're somebody else is at a higher level, with the Chinese breaking into US government...

First ever online-only NFL game draws over 15 million viewers

Not being a hardcore NFL fan, I still would have watched this game if I had known it was on and that it was streaming only. The first I heard about it was when I tuned in the NFL pregame shows and they were showing updates from the game. They didn't happen to mention it was streaming only so I...

Bayonetta 2 Review: A Leading lady worth rooting for

If they offer this game as part of a bundle in time for Christmas, I'm in!

Is Bioware caving over Mass Effect 3? Cofounder says fan feedback "painful"

But people certainly have seen the advertising, where the point of the game is to "Take Earth Back". This, at least to me, implies that a successful play through of the game will result in you actually succeeding in taking Earth back. I challenge any of those being satisfied with the "endings"...

Is Bioware caving over Mass Effect 3? Cofounder says fan feedback "painful"

You seem worried about a possible (but not likely) "large risk of succumbing to the banality of design by a committee of amateurs" but the complaints about the endings of ME3 are largely due to the banality of design by a committee of PROFESSIONALS.

Desperate LightSquared claims 5th Amendment violation, demands new spectrum

Not gonna happen. The "far right media" has quite a different take on the matter: http://michellemalkin.com/2011/09/15/li ... ay-morass/

Mass Effect 3 review: a proper ending—but not a perfect one

I'm sure you didn't get a chance to play this to the end at the time, but now that people have had the time to do so and found the ending less than satisfactory, to put it lightly, I think a follow-up story is in order.
