Dealmaster: Early Black Friday 2023 deals

The "Soundcore by Anker Space Q45" for $80 should have noted that it's for a refurbished version not NIB.

Sensible power output makes the DBA Mini eMastered a huge amount of fun

I just wanted to say that I could hear Alex's voice in my head as I read this article. Anyone else? I hope this is a recurring gig for Alex here at Ars.

Eco-friendly tires: Bridgestone goes green in new tire test

Are these similar to the Indy tires from last year where it was just sidewalls that were made with guayule or have they incorporated it into more of the overall construction?

Modern trackball mouse wants to be a wireless solution to your ergonomic woes

MX Ergo user here, too, for the past couple years. Prior to that, I'd used the less expensive Logitech thumb trackball mice for about 20 years. I agree that one of the best benefits of them is it frightens people and prevents them from trying to use your mouse. lol.

Pebble, a 2013 smartwatch, updated to work with 2022 Pixel 7

I still have my original Kickstarter edition Pebble. I sold off my 2x Kickstarter backer Pebble Time a few years ago when I moved to a Garmin Vivoactive 3. I guess I'm lucky in that I never had a problem with either my Pebble or Pebble Time. For my use cases, these were the perfect smartwatch...

We peek inside Porsche’s private Le Mans race car test

Neat to see that Magnus Walker was at the test, too.

You can now buy a road-legal replica of Porsche’s mighty 917K racer

I follow the Late Brake Show on YT so saw that video a week or so ago. Awesome to see the car and video show up here!

What is LMDh and why are we so excited about sports car racing in 2023?

It's to prevent rollovers if the prototype gets airborne. Look for a video clip of the Porsche 919 LMP1-H driven by Brendan Hartley coming into contact with the Gulf Racing Porsche 911 at the WEC Silverstone 2016 race. Here's a written race report for the same incident...

What is LMDh and why are we so excited about sports car racing in 2023?

OK. The Hyundai one is somewhat new news to me. I'd heard they were poking around but had been noncommital. This might be the first time I've read in print that it's (potentially) on.

2021’s World Car of the Year goes to the electric Volkswagen ID.4

As candidate for World Car of the Year? None of Tesla's vehicles were new for the 2021 model year so I don't see why any of them would be in the running.

2021’s World Car of the Year goes to the electric Volkswagen ID.4

Ideally, VW will be pushing out updates to address that. Speaking of which, has VW gone to doing OTA updates on vehicle software? Or do you still need to go into a dealership to get updates installed? I really hope you're not stuck with the infotainment in this state for as long as you own the...

2021’s World Car of the Year goes to the electric Volkswagen ID.4

Thoughts on the infotainment system? The few video reviews of the ID.4 I've seen seem to point to the infotainment system as the biggest issue with the car. Not sufficiently responsive and prone to locking up and/or misbehaving.

USPS picks a new mail truck—and no, they won’t all be electric

If these are being built by Oshkosh, maybe they could make a demonstrator version using Pratt & Miller's twin turbo flat-plane crank V8 from the Corvette C8.R GTE/GTLM race car. Clearly, that's why they bought Pratt and Miller, right? (Sorry, Dr. Gitlin. When I saw these were being built by...

Nothing beats the Honda Civic Type-R in terms of driving fun per dollar

Just a minor nitpick: The image caption for the Boost Blue Type R says "Bloom Blue" instead. Thanks for the review of the Type R! Its looks are a bit too much for me, but I'm glad it continues to exist in this world.

The 2021 Polestar 2 has a great cabin—and deep Android integration

Couldn't help read "Continental" in Ryan Eversley's voice.

The 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: A quirky hot hatch, but not enough fun

I drive an '18 Elantra GT Sport that has the 7sp DCT and 1.6L turbo. So, effectively the same engine and transmission. Coming from an NA 3.5L Altima SE, I was surprised at how peppy the 1.6L turbo was... Once the turbo spools up. That's probably my biggest (and really only) complaint about this...

The 2020 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: A quirky hot hatch, but not enough fun

I preferred the i30 (Elantra GT in the US) over the Veloster by a mile. So, I drive an '18 Elantra GT Sport. Just couldn't get the '19 Elantra GT N-Line to fit into my budget. Still massively disappointed that Europe gets a proper N version of the i30 and we just get an N-Line trim level with...
