Motorola’s 2026 Razrs are almost worth buying just for their stunning looks… almost

I would love a flip phone, but all the vendors currently offering them are a mess of hostile to the consumer (Samsung) or security issues galore (Motorola, Nubia, and Xiaomi).

Silo S3 teaser turns back the clock to a greener past

Hmmm. Season 2 fell off the rails a bit. I'll give it a few episodes before I decide to call it quits.

Anthropic gets $5B investment from Amazon, will use it to buy Amazon chips

Round and round we go, where the money lands, no one knows!

“TotalRecall Reloaded” tool finds a side entrance to Windows 11’s Recall database

I am still waiting for my photo editor of choice (DxO Photolab) to get Linux or Wine support. Once that's done, I would not need Windows or MacOS.

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won’t be able to buy or download new books

I'm still using my Libra H2O. It's close to perfect. The main downsides is the microUSB and soldered battery.

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won’t be able to buy or download new books

Boox makes truly fantastic devices, but what I love about my eReader is that it is a dedicated device with no temptation to be distracted and crazy battery life. The Boox devices go against that by running full fat Android and having (relatively) very powerful processors compared to other...

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won’t be able to buy or download new books

eReaders can easily last a decade, require no trees to be harvested to work, do not require mounds of petrochemicals to transport like books, and do not eat up land to be warehoused like books. I would not be surprised at all if they are lower environmental impact than the dead tree variants.

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won’t be able to buy or download new books

No? I have a first generation Kobo that is still going strong. The only reason I purchased a newer Kobo was to get a slightly larger device with water resistance and physical page turn buttons.

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

You didn’t read the article, did you? Luckily for us, the American perspective doesn’t matter here because we are talking about Italian contract law.

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom

Thanks for the suggestions. I caved and picked-up a refurbished Scribe 16 GB for € 180. We'll see if I hang on to it or not.

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

No, what is really happening is that there are literate people who read the article, and people who did not read the article who are arguing against a straw man in bad faith.

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

So…you didn’t read the article, did you?

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

It seems a satisfactory term could be included, as Netflix updated their T&C's in April 2025 and still operate in Italy.

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

Did you read the article? It’s because they breached contract law. Italy is not requiring Netflix to provide a great service for a low price in perpetuity. They require sufficient disclosure in the contract terms as to why a price may change. It’s almost as if the down votes are for the lack...

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

No. Don’t be stupid. Comply with local laws and regulations where you do business. They either were ignorant of Italian law or wilfully ignored it, and got burned. Don’t like the laws? Don’t operate there. We comply with separate FDA, EMA, PMDA, et al. legal and regulatory requirements wherever...

Netflix ordered to refund subscribers up to €500 for unlawful price hikes

You are making a fuss out of nothing. Did you actually read the article? Netflix’s original T&C’s did not comply with Italian law. Consumers (rightfully) called them on it. Netflix has updated their contract as of 2025 to have the necessary language to justify price increases. They probably...

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom

I have seen studies and meta-analyses on this, but AFAIK, there has yet to be one done randomising people exclusively to e-Ink readers and physical books. At least one of the three Screen Inferiority Effect dimensions (and possibly two) are nearly impossible to have occur on an e-Ink Reader.

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom

Which one do you use? I've been wanting to consolidate down to something like a Kindle Scribe for a while now, but the note management system leaves something to be desired there...

Sweden goes back to basics, swapping screens for books in the classroom

Me too. I find it far easier to get into a physical book than using my eReader. Unfortunately, my career has me re-locating every 3-5 years. I do not want to accumulate a huge stockpile of books to move and the libraries where I move to aren't always offering books in English or French. For some...
