Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

I don't know if anyone reading this thread remembers my RL buddy Glocksman who used to post on Ars (especially the Soap Box) 20 years ago? It's too bad he is no longer with us. He would be shocked and amazed (and probably never let me hear the end of it) if he had lived to see a day where not...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

I'm not ready to buy anytime soon anyway. I just like exploring my options and learning about the Mac side of things.

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

I think if I was to try Mac OS I would have to get a good enough display that I could use the x2 "proper" Retina setup. The more I looks at Apple's offerings the more I think perhaps a 24 inch iMac could be the best bang for buck since it comes with a pretty decent display. I don't like the...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

Alright guys you convinced me. Just need a Kind Mysterious Internet Stranger to gift me a MacBook Pro 16 with M3 Max, 1 TB SSD and 36 GB of RAM. Then I will give it a thorough go!

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

So I am assuming Mac OS has different options for the size of the dock and top mini bar thing? Is there like small-med-large for that separate from the scaling? I was wondering because the default size I see in screen-shots on the MacBook looks a little too large for me. Seems like the default...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

But windows scaling doesn't mess with the display of pics, video or anything besides the GUI controls itself. I have tested and confirmed this over and over using 125%

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

Thanks for doing this benwiggy ! I was afraid this was the way it worked. Not sure I could ever switch to Mac OS with that type of system in place. In many ways I would like to try switching from a desktop to something like a MacBook Pro 16 inch. But so much of what I do is based on 2160 height...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

I've thought about this but I've read that Mac OS at native 4k on a 32 has unusable small GUI controls....and if I go "retina" X2 default then I lose an ass ton of screen real estate as it becomes 1920x1080. Thus my confusion about the way Mac OS handles pixels View...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

Thanks. It will be a WHILE still yet. I will research this to death. I'm used to working on a desktop. Love my mechanical keyboard, mouse and 32 inch monitor. Ideally I would find a box of money and get a 27 inch Apple Display and a Mac Studio with Max chip. But then I'd also want to replace my...

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

It's still around but I use Directory Opus's built in viewer on Windows. I just sort of picked that out as something I was familiar with that is available on Mac OS since DOPUS is NOT. I did try Mac OS Path Finder briefly when I had an Intel Based Macbook Air years ago. I couldn't get used to...

Thanks so much! You don't happen to use Acdsee do you? I'm wondering how it handles this in Mac OS.

Question about Mac OS scaling and image viewing

Life-long Windows guy here but I am very curious about Mac OS and continuously think about switching. In Windows (desktop build) I am running a 32 inch 4k monitor and I have Windows GUI set to 125%. This simply makes all GUI elements 25% larger than normal but video and image files all display...

New Build - AMD or Intel? -AMD mobo chipsets are GOOD now?

OK....just got me an RMA for the RAM. Suggestions on which 2x16GB kit? Prefer something on the QVL for the MSI Unify X570 and for sale at Newegg? I think 3200 is Good Enough but I would look at 3600 depending on price

New Build - AMD or Intel? -AMD mobo chipsets are GOOD now?

I have decided to go AMD for sure. Thanks for all the info guys. I already have the Ripjaw V 2x8 16GB kit. I suppose I could do the research and see if using all 4 slots is viable or not....I understand it's harder to get XMP speeds (3200 in this case)working with all 4 slots filled. I suppose I...

Simple Alternatve to light a case and New Build after YEARS!

Two physical drives simply because for the last 20 years I have Windows and Programs on the C drive...and all my user data -docs/pics/etc on the D drive. Just saves lost of time to have my data separate from my OS. When it's time to reformat/reinstall windows I can always unlplug my data drive...

Simple Alternatve to light a case and New Build after YEARS!

Well with this build I won't need ANY SATA at all. Nada...so I don't care if my m.2 drives shut them all down. Only the two m.2s and the GPU...that's it.
