Attackers exploit critical vulnerability recently patched in Zimbra servers

I'm pretty sure they were part of the great migration to the cloud. I remember seeing people selling Zimbra cloud email fairly early on, back before I finally managed to convince the bosses to do office 365 and spare me the headache of dealing with office licensing.

Major outages at CrowdStrike, Microsoft leave the world with BSODs and confusion

Or stuck to the back of/built in to signage displays In a lot of cases it's the second one. The core might be working, but all the devices used to communicate with it by the users are down. Yup, it's not often that a member of the S&P500 possibly commits corporate suicide. It doesn't matter...

Mystery malware destroys 600,000 routers from a single ISP during 72-hour span

That's the most likely idea that occurs to me, followed by the possibility of a disgruntled former employee who just wanted to hurt their former employer, followed by a customer with a grudge. Everything else I can think of so far seem exceedingly unlikely, such a national intelligence org...

Unity CEO John Riccitiello is retiring, effective immediately

I'm guessing this is a sign that the changes and apology tour have not been super successful at persuading anyone to come back, and that the next financials aren't gonna look good as a result.

The Atlantic hurricane season has begun: What we know and what we don’t

My understanding is that major national carrier has written homeowner's insurance in FL for at least a couple of decades.

The Atlantic hurricane season has begun: What we know and what we don’t

Actually, DeSantis seems to have opted for the strategy of just allowing insurance companies to not honor their obligations by making it very hard to sue them when they don't and impossible to recover the costs of suing them even if you win. So they'll charge you insane premiums and then not...

EV advocates join tech groups and automakers to oppose AM radio mandate

The real answer is that this is really about making sure AM conservative talk radio keeps its potential audience. The fake answer would be that all these roadside information stations that already exist are on AM and it would be expensive to replace that equipment with FM equipment and possibly...

EV advocates join tech groups and automakers to oppose AM radio mandate

AM antennas are big compared to FM antennas, I suspect this is less about cost and more about them not wanting to have to account for having somewhere to put this big antenna when designing the car.

HP breaks its own printers (again) with firmware update

I banned HP printers from being purchased at work at least a decade ago, and I am constantly reminded of why that was a good decision every time a family member asks for help with their HP printer.

Musk vows to sue as Microsoft drops Twitter from its ad platform

Elon Musk continuting to demonstrate that he spent billions on a business he doesn't understand at all while thinking he does in fact understand it.

Florida bill would make bloggers who write about governor register with state

Yeah, and the state government will hand the kidnapper over when the feds indict them, but the kid is then in the custody of the state of FL, and the other parent is under this law not permitted custody of a child because either they're trans or they let their kid be trans, so the state isn't...

Florida bill would make bloggers who write about governor register with state

No, but when the non-custodial parent kidnaps a trans kid, or a kid of the trans parent, or a kid with a trans sibling, and brings them to FL, FL would under this law refuse to return them to the other state, and either give the parent that committed kidnapping custody or put the kid in foster...

Rocket Report: NASA validates new engine design; Chinese firm tests mini Starship

10,000 lbs thrust would put it at just under 2x one of the Rutheford engines on Electron, and about 1/20th of a Merlin engine on Falcon 9.

Here’s everything we know about the 2024 Corvette E-Ray hybrid

They'd be helpful, but there's still a lot of times lights should be on that wipers wouldn't be. Tunnels, parking garages, in fog, in smoke, and just plain idiots who take five miles at night to realize that their lights aren't on because the street is well illuminated.

Here’s everything we know about the 2024 Corvette E-Ray hybrid

I'm of the opinion that automatic exterior lights should have been mandatory equipment for at least 20 years now.

Epson quitting laser printers doesn’t address its bigger sustainability issue

IMO the only reason for inkjets is if you're printing on photo paper. Otherwise the laser will cost less in the long run, either because the supplies are cheaper if you print a lot, or because the ink drys out and eventually kills the printer if you don't.

Musk challenges Twitter CEO to debate—Twitter will stick to its lawsuit instead

Musk would totally insist on Dreyfus and then pull a Pavel Young.

Twitter shareholders to vote on Musk merger a few weeks before court trial

It depends. How much can he borrow without having to sell stuff he doesn't want to sell? If he's close to tapped out on how much he can borrow he might be willing to cough up several billion dollars that he can borrow vs having to sell lots of stuff he really doesn't want to sell to get the $54b...

Twitter shareholders to vote on Musk merger a few weeks before court trial

I mean, unless you think Twitter is still very overvalued, this is the best possible of all worlds for you as a shareholder. Twitter get a huge pile of cash from the rich idiot and probably pays most of it out to shareholders, and the shareholders get to keep their shares.

Out of prison, Shkreli plans “Web3 drug discovery” platform backed by crypto

The same reasons that he got said ban in the first place. He thinks the law doesn't actually apply to him, in spite of having gone to jail, and also thinks he's the smartest person in the room no mater who else is in the room.
