Some dogs can classify their toys by function

Most of the pics here are Collies - interesting. This brings back a memory of my doggo(RIP). Once while in the pet store he did rounds of the toys section, "tried" a few, selected one and stopped by the cashier right after! Huskies can be near human intelligent - if they're motivated by...

Texas prepares for war as invasion of flesh-eating flies appears imminent

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/man-eater-screw-worm-parasite-honduras-central-america/ I sincerely hope Telegraph is making this up and no actual Hondurans are suffering from the screwworm. They're the only ones reporting it so there's reason for hope but otoh...

Mini PC Review - Beelink Ser8

I have a SER5 and there were no signs of any BIOS updates from Beelink for a long time. That changed recently - they now have a .cn site with BIOS update images - you have to find the right file and read through the word document to be able to apply it but at least it's there.

97% of CrowdStrike systems are back online; Microsoft suggests Windows changes

If an automated update downloads files that are loaded into the kernel in kernel mode then 100% a user mode input is parsed in kernel mode. If the updated files ran in user mode driver that would be a different story. I don't mean User input as necessarily a human user inputting at the terminal...

97% of CrowdStrike systems are back online; Microsoft suggests Windows changes

It's not like Microsoft hasn't provided UMDF since Vista - wonder if the Crowdstrike people considered using that instead at least for the parts that parse user inputs. Microsoft can't just say no kernel mode drivers of course - it's a different ball game for them as far as device driver...

Apple releases public betas of all next-gen OS updates, except for VisionOS

I guess new wallpaper parsing software is finally stable enough. I mean they've had practice on this for last many releases.

The case for and against macOS 15 Sequoia being the final release for Intel Macs

Planned obsolescence is a relatively new thing in the desktop world. With Apple you can't even realistically switch to Linux - hardware support and all. Ditto if you have Surface hardware - you can run Linux but stuff isn't necessarily going to work as good as say a HP or Lenovo because...

Google’s Pixel 8 series finally supports DisplayPort

Typical Google style unusable mess - took few attempts for the phone display to show up on my LG 4k monitor and when it did it was just a blown up phone UI that was zoomed in too big to be usable. Samsung has had this down for years on their phones.

Tesla chair says Elon Musk needs $46 billion pay plan to stay motivated

I heard AI can do the job of a CEO maybe that's the technological breakthrough Tesla needs? If they need to promote from within Tesla FSD tech can be put in charge of CEO duties - fully self driven Tesla the company?

Canada vows to ban Flipper Zero device in crackdown on car theft

Technology would help - US DHS has used cargo scanning for this as part of the container security initiative.

Canada vows to ban Flipper Zero device in crackdown on car theft

I remember reading an article or watching a YouTube video about how bad car theft is in Canada. I was surprised how easily the thieves were able to load up the cars in containers and ship them to African countries where they were in demand. One would think that for border and customs agencies...

Tesla publishes its financial results for 2023; profit margin shrinks

Time to call Autopilot God Mode, double down on controversial Xeets and mislead customers on God Mode availability and pricing? Maybe drop QA a notch down?

You’ll be paying extra for ad-free Prime Video come January

I did this over a year ago and even with the incessant push from Amazon to sign up for Prime every time I add things to cart, I haven't felt the need to do it - like at all. I wait until my cart is $25 or more and then choose free shipping every time - slows my purchasing down and helps me plan...

The race between Intel, Samsung, and TSMC to ship the first 2nm chip

Can't wait to see what gets creatively renamed to 2nm - existing 7nm would be best case, hopefully not old 14nm rebadged to 2.

The Tesla Cybertruck finally goes on sale, starting at $60,990

Ugh yeah the whole video sounded like a full on advertisement that Tesla couldn't have paid enough money for an ad agency to do. Except an actual advertisement would have to be held to higher standards.

Google Drive is investigating “sync issues” as users complain of lost files

You mean the free edition? I tried to buy a license for a business and the only way to do that was to go through their Sales department and the price they quoted wasn't cheap at all.

AMD’s Radeon RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT fill the gaps in its next-gen GPU lineup

Power ratings are one thing but in my experience nVidia's drivers and firmware do a better job of power management than AMD. So it would be interesting to compare power consumption at various loads.

Unlimited miles and nights: Vulnerability found in rewards programs

For a company using 'secret' to encrypt cookie containing access control information they seem to have bullet proof logging/auditing. How else are you going to destroy all the information accessed by 'the group'?
