Modern Warfare 3 preview: war is still pretty much the same

Maybe I've been gaming for too long (since the Atari days) but I'm tired of shooting things, particularly other people. Even BF3 looks to be more of the same. I think the gaming press and consumers need to do a better job of rewarding innovation while punishing those publishers that make the...

Public radio decides it's time to chase trolls away

I have frequently read (and contributed) to the comments over at NPR and I am overjoyed that they've decided to moderate. The ability to comment on an article, as well as responding to other commentators, can spark some pretty interesting conversation. Heck, I love a good debate. But debates...

Low prices, low expectations? Ars looks at indie game pricing

I all but abandoned PC gaming for years, because consoles seemed to be more exciting and I was tired of worrying that my desktop wouldn't be able to handle some titles. But now that I don't have the time or money to play many of the blockbuster console games, indie games have come to the rescue...

The walking zeds: Ars reviews Dead Nation on the PS3

Awesome game. There is a simplicity in the execution that makes this one of the best games I've played this year. Also, this should be the last zombie game made for the next five years. I think we're going to OD on zombies. I'm thinking Yeti are the next big thing. COD needs a yeti mode, for sure.

Microsoft working on TV subscription service for Xbox, PCs

I'm loving espn on xbox. I can watch out of market college games and soccer. If local pro teams were included, I'd happily cut the cord. Unfortunately, here in Philly Comcast has a stake in the teams, so it'd never happen. I doubt caller operators in most markets would give up the rights to...

Microsoft claims Kinect left open by design (with bonus hacked vids)

I was thinking these are all neat ways to incorporate SFX is home movies. Not sure what the quality of video the Kinect Camera produces but it at the very least, you could shoot some cool videos to post on youtube. I don't know if anyone remembers The Movies, in which you ran a movie studio and...

A console Diablo 3? Blizzard hiring talent, looking possibility

Not that I'm expecting much of an answer but what makes people 'idiots' for choosing to play games on consoles? Is there a rational explanation for such name calling?

Risk aversion, funding mistakes block gaming masterpieces

The last bit about the Mona, Lisa Macbeth and The Wire was used to illustate the preceding paragraph, not the article as a whole. I read it as ' these works are great not just because they were great ideas but because they were executed well'. I don't think he was commenting on whether or not...

Google tries calming fears of jittery TV networks

Google does something with the large amounts of data they generate from their various projects. I always believed they used it to target advertising and derived profit from that. Would they allow broadcasters to get in on that action? I can understand why broadcasters would be upset with google...

Do you want a gaming future with buttons? We must fight!

    a) I'm waiting for Caprica style VR before I lose buttons. b) Is it really so hard to ignore Ars posts you don't like or do people get hard ons when they feel the Sacred Code of Ars Reporting is being violated?

Is "Kewl Breeze" a superkid, a sneaker, or a commercial?

Yea, not really feeling this article. If you watch kid's after school programming these days you're just watching a giant commercial. Any parent who has a child watching Pokeman, Yu Gi Oh or one of those shows that requires kids to 'collect' toys, you understand this.

Fresh face: hands-on with the Xbox 360 fall dashboard update

Jeez, relax about the ESPN3 thing. Besides the NCAAF games, everything else are weird foreign sports like soccer and something called the Canadian Football League. I wonder if it's hockey they play without ice...

Playing Halo: Reach on Xbox Live: how to stay sane

I recently got back into PC gaming after realizing that my computer wasnt as outdated as I thought as well as being frustrated/bored but XBL scene. It had been at least a decade since I played an online fps for PC. I was intimidated at the prospect of playing TF2 and CS at first, knowing that I...

We were not ready: the PlayStation turns 15

I didn't buy a memory card when I bought my PS because I thought it was some BS that Sony wanted to make money with. After realizing that it was necessary to have a memory card to save my progress in Kilik the something, something I purchased one. Also, why isn't anyone making a Bushido Blade...

Sony's new e-readers: who needs wireless?

Is it possible to 'borrow' e books from the library and what is that process like? I really want to buy a kindle but I love my local library where the books are free.

Amazon rolls out smaller, lighter, WiFi-only Kindle for $139

When are we getting the fold-able e-paper like they have in Caprica? I hate it when science doesn't do what I see on TV.

WikiLeaks drops 90,000 war docs; fingers Pakistan as insurgent ally

Been reading through these documents all day (when the wikileaks site is actually up and running) and the impression I've got so far is that taken as a whole, the 'war' in Afghanistan isn't going so well which, depending upon who you are, is either a revelation or confirms what you already...
