Errant upper stage spoils Blue Origin’s success in reusing New Glenn booster

I wonder if Eric Berger or Stephen Clark could do an interview with an underwriter from one of the major launch insurance providers like AXA XL or Beazley on what goes into pricing a policy and the coverage exclusions and limitations. I think many of the Ars readers would find this interesting.

FCC chair blasts Amazon after it criticizes SpaceX megaconstellation

I didn't think it was possible for me to dislike a human being more than Ajit Pai, but Mr. Carr is on track to do so...

The harrowing story of what flying Starliner was like when its thrusters failed

Eric thanks as always for another fantastic article. Like others this is why I subscribe to Ars!

Gemini is an increasingly good chatbot, but it’s still a bad assistant

I just don't understand why Google would allow it's "product" to get worse. If Assistant can reliably do a task, why doesn't Gemini leverage the Assistant code to accurately perform the task. As others have said doing a task wrong is worse than not doing it at all.

The odds of a city-killer asteroid impact in 2032 keep rising. Should we be worried?

This is why I not only love Arstechnica, but also the comments section. I learn some of the most interesting things from my fellow Arsians.

Strain of H5N1 bird flu that killed Louisiana resident found in Nevada dairies

As a fellow Nevadan, genuinely thanks @moongoddess , I have a few more questions. I have a bird feeder in my back yard, I wear gardening gloves when I refill it on a weekly basis and wash my hands thoroughly after doing so. Is this enough, or is there additional reason to not have a feeder up...

FDA proposes ditching common decongestant for being completely useless

I believe pseudoephedrine has always been available, it was just moved behind the pharmacy counter. I've never had a problem getting some.

FCC chair slams Trump’s call to revoke CBS and ABC broadcast licenses

Please everyone, go and vote, remind your friends and family to register and vote. We have ample evidence of what a disaster a second Trump term would be for this country.

Boar’s Head will never make liverwurst again after outbreak that killed 9

I'll admit, I (previously) thought Boars Head was one of the better brands out there. It makes me wonder, if this was the condition of their factory, what the heck does it look like at the other mystery meat purveyors?

Autonomous Teslas still a pipe dream in Boring Company tunnels

Living in Las Vegas I had the opportunity to ride in the "Tesla's in Tunnels" a few times and it is as stupid as it sounds. I don't see any way for this system to scale. Passenger loading and unloading takes forever (compared to true mass transit), and and god forbid you have a group larger...

Pixel 9 phones: The Gemini AI stuff, reviewed

Given its current abilities, I think Google is smoking crack if they think people will pay $240 annually

AT&T and Verizon ask FCC to throw a wrench into Starlink’s mobile plan

For some reason I think AT&T and Verizon may be crying wolf to try to get the T-Mobile / SpaceX product offering delayed since it'll be some time before they can truly offer something competing. Much like how the Airlines cried wolf about the 5G deployment interfering with their crusty...

765,000 owners still have airbags recalled in 2015; stop driving, Ford says

I too have an E46 BMW and got both airbags replaced. I believe I got the drivers side done in 2016 and (due to parts availability) got the passengers done in 2017. Both times were quite painless. Drop the car off in the morning, pick it up that afternoon.

FTX to pay $12.7B to victims of Sam Bankman-Fried’s massive scheme

NPR did a very interesting podcast on the bankruptcy debt buyers who have been purchasing individual's FTX unsecured debt for pennies on the dollar, and how these individuals and organizations may get a huge pay day from this outcome...

London hospitals declare emergency following ransomware attack

Agreed, my take (working in the InfoSec industry) is that these sorts of ransom payments needs to made illegal at the national level. We have to cut off the funding of these groups. Currently each successful attack only makes them stronger and emboldens them to ask for even more money next...

After mice drink raw H5N1 milk, bird flu virus riddles their organs

From this article and the bear worm one, I think I may be avoiding steak for a while. I understand while Dept of Agr hasn't found H5N1 in beef, I like my steaks less than medium, and I know this department seems to operate with big beef's best interests in mind (instead of consumers best...
