    New UniFi Gear. Recs?

Unless I'm missing something, the WiFi on the Device Bridge Switch is only there to allow the switch to wirelessly uplink to a Unifi AP. I don't believe it acts like an Access Point. If you're going to run fiber to the garage, you're much better off getting something like the...

Anyone have any particular bulk ethernet cable/plugs/keystone brand they like?

I've only done a few odd runs at home, but I've had good luck with TrueCable.

    Mac keyboard recommendations

I have one of the old space gray Magic Keyboards circa 2019 and love that thing. My only complaint is the spacebar. It's never felt quite right. I tried the new USB-C model in an Apple Store and it felt much better. There's no need for me to replace my keyboard right now, but it's definitely on...

Trump admin demands states exempt ISPs from net neutrality and price laws

It's not all bad news. Sonic has expanded massively in the Bay Area, and they're pushing into SoCal now. All of the new builds are 10G FTTH.

Texas suit alleging anti-coal “cartel” of top Wall Street firms could reshape ESG

Here's the interesting thing...the adoption of sustainability standards around the world has largely been voluntary and remains so for the most part. The US has never mandated their usage. Europe started mandating ESRS in 2024 and only for large enterprises. Small to medium enterprises in Europe...

Texas suit alleging anti-coal “cartel” of top Wall Street firms could reshape ESG

This lawsuit is going nowhere. The money behind promoting sustainability standards and making companies report those standards is massive. The truth is that Blackrock, Vanguard, State Street, and all the rest of the who's who in the investment world could care less about the woo woo side of ESG...

Stung by customer losses, Comcast says all its new plans have unlimited data

Oh I remember that garbage campaign. They had a big 10G billboard in SF on 101 headed to the Bay Bridge. Huge swaths of the east bay have symmetrical fiber with AT&T and/or Sonic now. On the rare occasion I see a Comcast truck anymore, all I can think is you poor sap.

Stung by customer losses, Comcast says all its new plans have unlimited data

A lot of us in the SF Bay Area have 10G symmetrical for $50/mo courtesy of Sonic. There's very little use case for it on the consumer side, but I'm not going to argue with having that much bandwidth. According to Sonic, they can deploy 10G for the same price if not less than 1G at this point...

    Home Mesh network

Costco has a good deal on the AXE5300 (supposedly the same as the AXE5400 per that review): https://www.costco.com/tp-link-deco-axe5300-wi-fi-6e-tri-band-whole-home-mesh-wi-fi-system-3-pack.product.100847833.html The BE11000 goes on sale there occasionally also...

    🦄 Current Events Monday June 9, 2025 through Sunday June 15, 2025

Nevermind the fact that the press conference occurred in a secure federal building with limited access. Everyone in that room should have known who he was, especially the highly trained agents who unnecessarily took him down for merely asking questions. A United States Senator, regardless of...

After losing customers, Comcast admits prices are too confusing and unpredictable

I don't know why anyone would sign up for Comcast in my area when Sonic and AT&T Fiber are fairly ubiquitous here and both are cheaper, more reliable, and technically superior.

California bill would force ISPs to offer 100Mbps plans for $15 a month

It will be interesting to see which side Sonic lands on once the above is finalized. Their fiber service is expanding pretty rapidly and covers huge swaths of the Bay Area. I believe they working on builds in LA too now. All of their recent and new builds exclusively offer symmetrical 10G...

Time for some new wifi router hotness?

I'm overjoyed by the latest news about TP-Link possibly getting axed from being able to sell products in the US. If this happens, I'll take comfort in the knowledge that our government will give us money to replace our TP-Link gear with something that's not banned...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. 😭
