Did every RTX 3080 card in the country sell out in 30 min this morning?

Interesting... I didn't do anything with the lottery thing. I saw they had cards, asked the guy, he pulled one out had me go through the anti-scalper confirmation, then went to the register. :) My timing was just super lucky.

Did every RTX 3080 card in the country sell out in 30 min this morning?

Cambridge? I had the day off, went there to pick up an SSD. I saw people milling around the graphics cards, and managed to jump on a 3080 ti myself! I was in shock until I got the thing installed!

Volkswagen plans to offer subscriptions for autonomous driving, extra EV range

I could see a subscription or pay as you go cost for autonomous driving. It would likely require live connections for up to date road and traffic information to work. Constant updates and improvements come with a cost and it is more of a service. On the other hand, the whole temporarily...

Toyota is entering a hydrogen-powered Corolla in a 24-hour race

Auto Manufacturer's would. The single biggest advantage is that it wouldn't mean a complete retooling of their assembly line to produce them. It would also be cheaper to make and sell than BEV and Fuel Cell vehicles. Ford was experimenting with this kind of thing years go. It's an...

Ford is switching to Android OS for infotainment in 2023

Honestly, I never had an issue with the Ford Infotainment system. I've had a few iterations at this point. Its weakness has always been the voice activation. Certain functions like using the Phone or controlling the climate control have been easy and trouble free for me, but anything more...

Waymo CEO: “Tesla is not a competitor at all”

Nor did Krafcik make the claim that Musk said he had level 5. But, in July 2020 Musk did say "I remain confident that we will have the basic functionality for level 5 autonomy complete this year" https://www.reuters.com/article/us-tesl ... SKBN24A0HE Krafick just said that he thinks Tesla's...

Waymo CEO: “Tesla is not a competitor at all”

I'm still convinced that we are still a very long way from fully autonomous cars in general. Not just Tesla. I do agree with Waymo that Tesla's approach isn't good enough. Camera's and basic sensors will probably not be enough to get the job done in anything but specific conditions. I'm not...

Amazon bans third-party merchants from shipping with FedEx

The distinction is that Amazon will use their own shipping with 3rd parties when those parties use them as a fulfillment center. That's not the same thing. A 3rd party not using an Amazon Fulfillment center doesn't have the option to use Amazons shipping, unless I am missing something. It...

Amazon bans third-party merchants from shipping with FedEx

So, let me see if I have this right.... -Amazon often used FedEx Ground on Prime deliveries because they figured out that they mostly got delivered within the two day window for Prime Orders. -FedEx Ground caught wind of this and started holding packages to match their stated estimated...

Elon Musk says driverless cars don’t need lidar—experts aren’t so sure

I get the point about Lidar can be considered a crutch, but on the other hand, I think that Musk is putting too much faith in camera only. In an ideal environment, I'm sure cameras can do what needs to be done, but car mounted cameras deal with conditions the human eye doesn't need to deal...

Google Fiber outage leaves KC customers offline two weeks after storm

So my question is, how did the other ISP's survive the storm and how quickly did they get things back up for comparison? Personally, we've never had an outage like that. We've lost power due to ice/wind storms for 2 to 4 days multiple times, but FIOS and Comcast never had a failure for us.

Netflix issues biggest price hike yet, most popular plan now costs $13 monthly

I have found that the seasons you get as prime members are the same ones that would appear on other services like Netflix. Generally, the seasons you have to pay for are the ones that aren't available at all on other services. You have me puzzled here.... I watch Prime Video on my Android...

Musk: Tesla getting “regulatory pushback” on remote-control feature

Given that he doesn't really say what "regulatory pushback" he is getting, I wonder what it is. My first thought make me think it may not have anything to do with Autonomous driving or even safety issues. If this is an "RC" based system, there are differences in allowed radio frequencies and...

Tesla sued after fatal crash, accused of making “unreasonably dangerous” car

I don't know how it works with Tesla vehicles, but Limiting top speed on a Ford is easy with the right feature. The "My Key" feature lets the owner configure the car to limit top speed, radio volume and a few other features based on what key fob is being used to control the car at the time.

Steam survey: VR headset ownership roughly doubled in 2018

Valve isn't trying to report on total VR headsets. Just PC VR ownership, so the number is probably at least close to correct. For consoles, It looks like there have been around 100million PS4's sold, and about 3 million headsets, so about 3% there. Mobile is another matter. I'm sure a lot...

Steam survey: VR headset ownership roughly doubled in 2018

Even as a Rift owner, I think VR is going to remain a niche product. There are some fantastic VR experiences to be had. I never want to use X-Plane 11 without VR again. It just adds such an incredible level of realism that makes me enjoy VR based flight sims so much more than a 2D experience...

Report: Tesla has more than 3,300 Model 3s remaining in US inventory

Does it matter? Midnight in DC is 7PM in Honolulu. What DMV is open past 5pm on New Years Eve? The cars have to be registered to qualify.

Uber, Tesla, and Waymo all struggled with self-driving in 2018

Sounds like a terrible idea. At least for a traffic control scenario. A few super cautious AI's slowing down more than needed on a highway will just lead to unnecessary traffic jams. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L45HwjzMu0g
