The Army’s costly quest for the perfect radio continues

Can't do mil crypto on a budget SOC, it doesn't have the security features. The complex part is the hardware to make sure no one else can get the key or decrypted data, not the processor that does the math.

The Army’s costly quest for the perfect radio continues

There's a big piece of cost justification I haven't seen anyone mention yet. The DoD has to work in the US. You're not getting the labor rate of manufacturers that operate overseas, nor are you at the millions of unit volumes that allow cheap automated domestic production. Globalization has...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

I've only seen it in 1pp, and the guy was speedhacking too, so it was easy and obvious to pick out. Was duos.

There are cheats. It's not super rampant, they seem to do a good job with bans. But very occasionally, you run into them. Speed hack and aimbot =(

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

School doesn't really get you ranged practice though. Military Island can, but not always. For AR practice, I like to go to Rozhak find and AR and sit on the roof of a 3 story. It's worth just using a red dot/holo for practice under 200m. I also like Prison in duos, drop roof and you can get...

Observatory Version of Misc Musings, Ravings, and Random Thoughts

Pretty awesome example of this I was shown recently.

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

You're going to have bad loot sometimes. If you drop away from the popular areas, you'll have less early deaths but have games with crap loot more often. If you drop the popular areas, you'll frequently die early, but if you survive you'll almost always have okay gear. If you can't deal with...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

I like Rozhok for AR practice. Not as hot as school, so you usually have time to find an AR. Get a good mix of fight types, peaking close buildings, longer fights across the road, and trying to pick people as they run between buildings/to vehicles. Pistols have a pretty good fire rate, if you...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Dropped apartments by school last night in duos. Had an M16 with a red dot when I hear a buggy driving nearby. Popped up to the roof to look for it, only to hear the school open up on it. I'm shooting it, my partner's shooting. Just when they're about to get to the point where it's not worth...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

For early game fights (pistols/shotguns/SMG/learning sounds), it's easier to practice in solos. For the other fights (mostly ranged with ARs and snipers), you'll learn faster in duos/squads because you don't have to go through the whole drop/looting phase every time you lose a gun duel.

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

That was the stated plan in March. It is no longer true. Crate/Keys are out August 3rd, in support of the Aug 23-26 Gamescom tournament.

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

The player volume is so high right now I don't think splintered queues matter. You're right it's a different game. Any hiding based tactic is much less successful. There's a lot more risk to most camping since you can't see someone coming, and hiding in grass and bushes is less successful since...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

It irritates me some. Had this been in the game when I decided to buy, I probably wouldn't have bought. The game has wildly exceeded any reasonable sales projections. I'm unimpressed by the sudden need to build in another revenue stream. Buying early access, the purchase is some mix of what...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

I'm not sure I prefer an SKS to just having an AKM. The SKS is only a smidge better than the AKM where it is better, and the AKM is a lot better everywhere else. The Vector used to be awesome. I still pick it up occassionally in memory, but it's just not good enough to be worth it anymore...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

This doesn't exist since they changed the circle mechanic to reduce center of circle circles. No matter where you set up, the circle can exclude your location, usually on the next shrink but for sure by the second. Sometimes RNJesus will look upon you with favor, sometimes he'll reject you and...

The Soap Box Miscellaneous Thread: Second Edition

I'm dragging out an old post, but just as an fyi. For all the bluster, the comission is largely going to get what they want. For example, the "amazing" response by Mississippi neglects to mention that most of what was requested they are legally obligated to provide. Odds are good this will...

America's biased view on the police

There are plenty of cities that have undergone reforms that has seen substantial improvement. Las Vegas and Seattle, for example Las Vegas police all take an implicit bias training class. They do reality-based field training, working through the sort of complicated, ambiguous scenarios actually...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

MMR is separate for each region, so when you switch to a server other than your normal one you're working your way up from a lower MMR. You can get the same effect by finding someone with a new copy of the game and jumping into squads with them. Obviously this is more pronounced the higher...

    Pokémon GO

Vaporeon and Machamp are the easier three star raids. Gengar looks beatable depending on his moveset. I probably wouldn't try the other 4 without a good stable of high level attackers or a big group. Edit: Although the ground event was recent, so you could potentially have a solid team against...

    PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

Playing solos, I'm fully muted and I don't think it affects my game any. You can talk to nearby people, but it's rare in actual game (since you don't want to give away your position), and you're not missing anything worthwhile by missing out on spawn island and the plane ride. Playing...
