65-year-old woman takes out drone over her Virginia property with one shot

I'm hoping that proprty owner rights up to 500 ft prevail. Nobody should have to worry about being photographed in their backyard. Even if someone can't legally shoot it down they should still have a right to privacy in their own space. Someone that publishes topless photos of someone in their...

Hacker who stole 2.9 million credit card numbers is Russian lawmaker’s son

There is a legal duty of care. Being a victim of a crime doesn't relieve someone of their responsibility. Their negligence was discovered as a result of being hacked but it could have been exposed by an employee.

Selfies in voting booths: Depending on where you live, they may be illegal

Stopping voters posting selfies in the voting booth violates their right of free speech. They're carving out a constitutional exception to protect the greater good of non-existant democratic integrity that has already been derailed long before the voter receives their ballot.

Selfies in voting booths: Depending on where you live, they may be illegal

LOL. So the gerrymandering and millions of bribe dollars won't negatively affect the democratic process but selfies will?

Kindle crashes and broken PowerShell: Something isn’t right with Windows 10 testing

MS sent me the Upgrade to Windows 10 nag in what was (deceptively) packaged as an "important" update, I only installed security updates and nothing else after that. Up until that point I always installed the updates.

Kindle crashes and broken PowerShell: Something isn’t right with Windows 10 testing

I don't care whether it's a good idea in theory. It isn't a good idea in practice and that's what's important. Every update breaks things, some more critical than others. One of the patches disabled wifi adapters (even on Surfaces). Once disabled the subsequent update that fixed the problem...

Hacker who stole 2.9 million credit card numbers is Russian lawmaker’s son

Although it doesn't justify the hacking, any business that stores sensitive information in such a careless manner should face consequences up to and including being shut down. The fines should be in addition to the full compensation to victims for monetary losses and wasting their precious time...

“Silicon Valley is hostile to diversity,” says Slack engineering director Leslie Mile

You're right. It would be a good investment to help children that need it early on. If only politicians that claim to be doing things "for the children" really cared about children. Some kids give up early on. They think "why bother" because the obstacles to their success seem insurmountable...

“Silicon Valley is hostile to diversity,” says Slack engineering director Leslie Mile

In a right to work state you can just show someone the door any time.

“Silicon Valley is hostile to diversity,” says Slack engineering director Leslie Mile

It would be nice. They also want you to "fit in". Even if they say they want someone that thinks outside the box what they really want is someone that doesn't think outside the box.

Rage mounts against pharma corp. that jacked cost of life-saving EpiPen by 400%

I don't think Trump is going to be president but if he becomes president I'm staying right here. It will be a historical first. It will be like Charles in Charge. And I'm referring to the Charles II the last of the Habsbergs.

Rage mounts against pharma corp. that jacked cost of life-saving EpiPen by 400%

It would be capitalism if large corporations had to compete like everyone else, function without protectionist perks and subsidies, go bankrupt when they fuck up or suffer real consequences when they break the law. It's not capitalism when the system is rigged. Politicians say it's capitalim...

NSA-linked Cisco exploit poses bigger threat than previously thought

I don't think it's safer but I won't have to worry about an update installing without my permission and rendering my computer inoperable which is exactly what Windows 10 did and I have a surface pro. Windows 8.1 will be handling updates that way in the near future so no thanks.

NSA-linked Cisco exploit poses bigger threat than previously thought

I have been using my phone to access the internet for a month since I shut off my surface. I will turn it on once to move my stuff to my new computer with non windows OS. I've never used anything else except dos so I'm thinking Linux.

House and Senate Republicans subpoena companies tied to Clinton mail server

I don't think they're capable of getting to the bottom of it even if it's their true intent because they're dealing with people who have no problem lying. And what's anybody going to do about it? The precedent has already been set. Everybody lies in these hearings and nobody suffers any...

House and Senate Republicans subpoena companies tied to Clinton mail server

Anything is possible. Anybody can be hacked. A lot of times attackers will have some inside information and target whatever has the potential to provide the most stuff. For regular government agencies email is managed in a way that makes it easy to provide for public records requests. From...
