Google to buy Nest for $3.2 billion

This is a real worry, Google already controls so much personal information that adding this data to the mix is almost your entire life.

Dish may outbid Sprint for T-Mobile, become fourth major carrier

Yes, it makes a lot of sense. Dish hasn't ever been able to be triple-play, and owning a cell company achieves that in a Dish kinda way. Dish have been pretty innovative in their time, I think they'll do well owning a mobile company.

    Apple TV sound quality

Has anybody noticed a big improvement to sound quality from Apple TV 3? I played an album from the Music tab the other day - so it streams directly from iCloud, not from my library - and it was so clear I could hear things I had never heard before. I've changed absolutely nothing about my...

Professor spoofs $80M superyacht’s GPS receiver on the high seas

What about receivers that use GPS, GLONASS and Galileo at once? Or are they so interoperable that they can all be spoofed with the same device?

If everything fades into the background, you may have a high IQ

Measures of "attention quota" are probably more meaningful than IQ. I notice all the time that people have more or less capacity for paying attention to one thing. You're probably likely to go better in an IQ test if you have higher levels of attention. Maybe that extends into all social...

Review: Sony’s Xperia ZL struggles to stand out from the crowd

No, it's more having the phone next to you on the desk. I love how clear the iPhone 5 is away from you, with the screen on. And because it's not as big as a small television, there aren't privacy concerns using it on the bus.

Review: Sony’s Xperia ZL struggles to stand out from the crowd

Can we have Ericsson back now. Edit: You know, I think I have to disagree with the tone of this article (especially the headline). This phone has a lot of character, and it's a Sony sort of character. I don't know how many people that appeals to these days, but this phone is very much in the...

Google wants utility companies to sell it more green power for data centers

You seem to be approaching this from the perspective that it is a completely new concept. It's not a new concept at all. I pay my retail power provider extra to buy an equivalent kWh worth of electricity from GreenPower accredited renewable sources. It's all averaged out over the quarter (or...

Google wants utility companies to sell it more green power for data centers

We have this in Australia. You pay a surcharge per kWh (5c I think) for 100% GreenPower. Adds about $50-80 a quarter.

Does WebKit face a troubled future now that Google is gone?

It seems like they need Firefox or IE to switch over to Webkit and fill the role.

T-Mobile’s new iPhone 5 is an unlocked, tweaked AT&T phone

As long as US carriers offer nano SIMs for pre-paid and off-contract plans. That's one way they can still hold power.

T-Mobile’s new iPhone 5 is an unlocked, tweaked AT&T phone

I think this will end up being an important movement over the coming years. I've always gotten new phones for free on contract. It has traditionally made sense that if you intend to spend $X/month on a mobile service, and always will, you might as well commit to 24 months and get a free phone...

Samsung unveils the new eight-core Galaxy S IV

Barely mentioned Android, didn't give any attention to third party developers, no new features or tools for third party businesses in their ecosystem. And people say Apple are megalomaniacs! I know this isn't how Samsung usually do it, but I have to wonder how far this cramming of useless...
