Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

Well the article was saying, in 2020, it would take years for Chinese chips to compete on a performance level with TSMC 7nm, Samsung 8nm and Intel 10nm. TSMC is building 3nm fabs with plans for 2nm fabs already made and Samsung is well into 5nm production so that article is saying it will take...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

Ok, I absolutely agree that that's a huge market, so are the older processes they are focusing on. I was just confused cause I thought you were saying they had a 7nm chip ready to bring to market that was competitive with other companies on a power and performance level and I was like: "whoa how...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

Thanks, I'll read them now. Edit: OK read them, according to that SMIC N+1, N+2 is at comparable power levels to TSMC 7nm/Samsung 8nm/GloFo 12nm+ (which should also mean Intel 10nm, didn't realize GloFo was that advanced before reading this) but is no where near their performance level. And it...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

Where are you seeing China has gotten to 7nm? I'd be interested in reading those sources cause that's significantly more advanced than any Chinese chips I have heard about. Also I see no way it would be possible to take a fab intact via war. Taiwan would have to surrender before Chinese boots...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

TSMC and Samsung have been constantly expanding this whole time. Even GlobalFoundaries has been putzing around retooling fabs. I first heard talks about the TSMC fab in AZ in 2017...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

US demand for domestic production was highly relevant. TSMC didn't have to listen sure but there was endless bitiching by US officials to bring some production to the US, but yes you are right it was accomplished by promising to subsidize the fab to guarantee its success.

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

AZ already has water reclamation and reverse osmosis plants where the fabs are being built...plus a nuke that uses that water for cooling. These are known and solved issues, the fabs are going there for a reason. Plus they use less water than the golf courses around Phoenix so... Also only 40%...

Chipmaker TSMC to invest $100 billion in research, expansion

Intel has been in the business of fabbing other people's chips for several years now. It's just that no one uses them as they are expensive and their toolkits suck. I don't really see that changing even if they are choosing to advertise that part of the business more now.

Arizona app store bill fails after heavy lobbying from Google and Apple

It is 100% a payment processor in regards to in-app purchases there is no reason for an in app purchase to occur in the app store. Not sure why you are lying to yourself.

Arizona app store bill fails after heavy lobbying from Google and Apple

You get the app from the store, they are free to charge for that transaction. They should not then force that app to use their payment processor, which charges 10x more than the market has decided a payment processor is worth (30% vs 3% for visa). Does that make it clear? I can try to stick...

Arizona app store bill fails after heavy lobbying from Google and Apple

Because by forcing you to use their payment processor in your app they charging for in app purchases and subscriptions which have nothing to do with their store. Does your art gallery only accept their own personal credit card with a 30% transaction fee vs using PayPal with a 5% fee or Visa...

Jury orders Apple to pay $308 million in royalties for DRM patents

Coca Cola does have rights to import and process raw coca. They import for pharmaceutical purposes as well, if another beverage company wanted to replicate the formula they would likely need to begin importing for pharmaceutical purposes and grow from there.

HBO Max will get a cheaper, ad-supported tier in June

Now granted it's a guess but I would think for the non hbo shows and movies they would just use the commercial cuts they already have from the cable TV runs. So yes I would imagine a minimum of 5 commercial breaks of 2+ minutes for a feature length movie, likely closer to 8, and a minimum of 2...

Bethesda’s leap to Xbox Game Pass adds 12 classics: Morrowind, Oblivion, more

I am guessing you are referring to xbox exclusive Brotherhood of Steel, not Fallout Tactics, if you are referring to Tactics for shame, that's a better Fallout than 3.

Microsoft confirms “some” new Bethesda titles will be exclusive to Xbox, PC

Off topic but since you brought up Fallout on Mac....Fallout 2 is my favorite game ever, I have bought at least 20 copies of it over the years, I remember being furious my senior year of high school (2005 or 06 not sure when in the year) when I went to buy my girlfriend a copy for her Mac and it...

Microsoft confirms “some” new Bethesda titles will be exclusive to Xbox, PC

Well Zenimax was founded by the owners of Bethesada as a holding company so they could invest in other studios, so it makes a fair amount of sense in this case to refer to Bethesda as the primary peice of the acquisition. (Even if I personally think the engine licenses Creative and ID Tech...

My closet full of $100+ board games agrees - video games are pretty cheap compared to most other entertainment and hobbies.

Gig companies fear a worker shortage, despite a recession

That explanation makes more sense but in that case it would just be senior employees exploiting an apparent outlier case that the emergency benefits didn't plan for. A reason to critique the bill as shoddily written but again I don't see how it should factor into what the rate of benefits should...

Gig companies fear a worker shortage, despite a recession

I applied for a job at McDonald's after graduating college wanting a job for a few months before I tried to look for career, just wanted to pay rent and buy beer. They told me that with my degree they were required to pay me $3 more than a than someone with a GED and that they had 20 people...

Gig companies fear a worker shortage, despite a recession

Well making more money on unemployment is not a valid reason for a claim. You can't quit your job and claim except under a very narrow set of circumstances involving preexisting comorbidities or taking care of a family member; so if this is true then all of these people are guilty of...
