The Chime banking app has been closing accounts, not returning money

Agreed. The process seems mercurial at best. That being said, I think the original poster misses a very large part of the issue by comparing what is happening here to standard operating procedure at a bank. When it is obvious that Chime is not a bank (nor explicitly allowed to claim such). So...

CDC loosened mask guidance to encourage vaccination—it failed spectacularly

Hawley’s antitrust bill targets Big Tech, but experts worry about collateral damage

An attention grab from a self-aggrandizing troll. It will go nowhere once the lobbyists have their say. Getting people to talk about Hawley is the point of Hawley's proposal.

Parler: We warned the FBI more than 50 times before the Capitol riot

So they knew it was bad enough to report to the FBI, but still didn't moderate it? Just...wow... EDIT: Just to demonstrate how wonky this is. As a content provider, I wouldn't be liable if somebody posts illegal content on my service and I don't know about it (let's say child pornography for...

Biden admin. plans executive order to address chip-shortage woes

I would like nothing more than an increase in native abilities to produce these products. I think that being able to produce things in America can only improve global quality. However, there are two issues from my perspective. The ramp up time (as others have rightly noted) will far exceed the...

This site posted every face from Parler’s Capitol Hill insurrection videos

Obviously yes the data exists and is known. The surprise comes from finding it on publicly accessible social media data as the expectation is that the site would have scrubbed it on upload (as I understand is standard practice among the even the most mildly skilled players on this space). Edit...

Reddit clone Voat, home to hate speech and QAnon, has shut down

Yeah, they are a funny crew. Always affronted by everything while calling everybody else thin-skinned. But hey, in this case, it was that free market they always claim to love and trust making it happen so I'm sure they'll take it very well :-)

Pornhub squarely targeted in bipartisan bill to regulate sex work online

Awesome. Another attempt to legislate morality. We (in a general sense) seem to never learn that these types of things (pot, prohibition, sex work etc.) in terms of legislation never have their intended impacts. Regulation and safety =/= prohibition and difficulty of access.

Covert microwave weapon “most plausible” cause of Cuba “health attacks”

Severed cable takes out Virginia voter site on registration deadline

There may not be an option for redundancy. When you are dealing with actual wires, even contracting two different ISPs may still send you traffic over the same physical infrastructure. This country is decades behind in infrastructure. But hey sure, let's build that wall instead.

Severed cable takes out Virginia voter site on registration deadline

I think you would be surprised how many single points of failure actually exist in our antiquated infrastructure. That being said, yeah, I find the timing and impact convenient.

Feds say active exploits of critical Zerologon bug threaten elections orgs

This is a more complicated issue than just keeping things patched. Even if they were perfectly patched we wouldn't escape issues. Obligitory xkcd

Coming to a browser near you: A new way to keep sites from selling your data

Agree. One of the main issues from my perspective is we are allowing courts and lawyers to be the soldiers on this fight. What we really need is legislation. We need to step out of this endless spiral of micro-management by precedent and get some *gasp* sensible leadership.

Facebook warns data protection rules could force European shutdown

Funny how nobody was complaining about fairness when they were using Europe as a tax shield..
