Ubuntu Natty and OS X Lion

Netatalk is awesome and not too bad to compile from source. I did this for an entire office to be a networked time machine for all clients. You can use check-install to create / install your own netatalk .debs.

Looking for a modern, HD Webcam for Linux

The original Apple iSight firewire works in Linux and apparently has a terrific lens. Though I'm not sure of the resolution. I've been meaning to track one down... Edit: You can also bump up the resolution and FPS for your current camera to see if that helps. Edit the file...

CentOS inplace upgrade 5.6 to 6.x anyone?

Try it in a virtual machine to test? There is always the linux upgradeany ...command. I upgraded Fedora Core 6 to CentOS 5 with that command from the Cent install disc, and it worked. Pretty risky/stupid but I had backups and it seemed to work ok on a test machine. YMMV

What are the smart kids using instead of rtorrent these days?

A good bittorrent test I always do is grab a recent Fedora torrent. Those always seem to have thousands of peers and fly pretty fast. http://torrent.fedoraproject.org Does one of those work ok as a test? From working at an ISP I can tell you: ISP filters do so based on the content of a...

    CentOS 6 released

I think centos is great, but some quotes like the one 'CentOS is for the community ... it is not BUILT by the community' though true can rub persons the wrong way. http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/cento ... 07101.html

Not much in new Thunderbird 5, but roadmap looks promising

That is specifically addressed in this release. Also, uncheck that horrible global indexer option.

Firefox update policy: the enterprise is wrong, not Mozilla

Except that 5 has a new gecko version, and such: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Gecko It's not like 4.1 at all from a compatibility / testing standpoint. Previous point releases did not make such a change.

Dear god, save me from Redhat.

As mentioned, yeah SL does not aim or claim to be 100% upstream binary compatible. http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/cento ... 07169.html SL builds their RPMs very differently from CentOS, for example http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/cento ... 08389.html

Ruminating: SSD boot drive on FW800?

Some of the unique drive commands are given over an AHCI sata connection to SSDs. When in a firewire or usb case it will probably work but is not ideal, perhaps.
