Tesla publishes its financial results for 2023; profit margin shrinks

Well, it has to be mostly forty-somethings because the younger people don't have the money. How does age correlate with political leanings, though?

Tesla publishes its financial results for 2023; profit margin shrinks

It's a minor convenience, but one that can justify a higher price for the trim level. Basically, cars without it are perceived as "they should cost a lot less". Since the big-ticket item in a battery car is the battery, such a car can't be offered that cheaply. So you need the features from the...

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

That's because it wasn't enough in many respects. It does prevent the majority from agreeing to, for instance, target religious minorities, political opponents, etc. Threats and violence against a relatively small number, yes. You need a large share of the population behind you to even make...

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

Do you even understand how Gerrymandering works? Gerrymandering is a method to ensure that one party gets more representation than the percentage of the population. And winner-takes-all gives one party 100% of the representation in that state. That's gerrymandering on steroids. Again, the...

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

Sure. You could go back to check yourself, but here are the exact words KGFish used "Lastly: the difference between Magats braying about the stolen 2020 election and Bernie Bros still bitching about Hillary winning the DNC nomination is one of minor degrees and angles. But its fundamentally the...

Exactly. That's the problem with winner-takes-all.

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

The Bill of Rights exists exactly to prevent rights for minorities to be removed even if the majority agrees to do so. That's false. Rulers, autocrat or not, can't survive long in office unless they have a very substantial part of the population behind them. They often suppress only certain...

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

The EU is kinda weird in that respect. They, quite explicitly, aspire to be the United States of Europe, in the sense of becoming a nation-state, although they aren't there yet. And a lot of things that nation states traditionally do are handled at the EU level. For instance, a common currency...

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

First, to be clear: politically, I agree with you. But when it comes to voting, voters have the same right to vote, whether you agree with their view or not. Today, it's no longer primarily the Delawares, but the Wyomings and Dakotas and Alaskas and Kansas and Montanas.

Robocall with artificial Joe Biden voice tells Democrats not to vote

Winner-takes-all is far worse, actually. Even in the fairly extreme case of Alabama, there are still (IIRC) two D representatives in the state. With winner-take-all, there are zero. I'd not be opposed to that, but see above. Yes, thanks to the electoral college. You are ignoring the fact that...

    Winner-takes-all is the ultimate gerrymander!

Because that's exactly what they should be doing: try to convince voters. It's up to the voters whether they are convinced.

Exactly my point. @KGFish equated the Sanders supporters with the Jan 6 terrorists.

Inside Honda and GM’s new North American hydrogen fuel-cell factory

Point is that the OP claimed that it wasn't possible. Whether it reaches the market, we'll have to see. Same as with, for instance, solid-state batteries. The actual use cases come later.

Tried that nuke plant on ships thing. There's a reason only four nuclear freighters were ever built (one each by the US, Germany, Japan and Russia), and all but one were converted to conventional engines.

Inside Honda and GM’s new North American hydrogen fuel-cell factory

Actually, home hydrogen generation is being developed. It's not available on the mass market, of course, but that's true for a lot of promised battery and other technologies, too.

Inside Honda and GM’s new North American hydrogen fuel-cell factory

For many use cases, the weight, limited energy density and charging times of batteries are prohibitive.

Those ideas have been around for ages. I don't want to dismiss them completely, but they never seem to leave the drawing board. I don't' know why, but I can speculate: the mechanism to do that without the manpower of the old ships of yore is probably very complex, ships may not fit under many...

Inside Honda and GM’s new North American hydrogen fuel-cell factory

Only for shorter distances - the distances where batteries don't have enough capacity and/or take too long to charge. The only actual ship I could find was a ferry in Norway. There are also battery powered ferries in that area, but they only serve the extremely short routes (10 minute trip time...

Tesla publishes its financial results for 2023; profit margin shrinks

Worse than that. To justify the lofty valuations from a few years ago, Tesla would have needed a market share of more than 500%. That's what happens when people who promise exponential growth don't stop to think that if you keep doubling your sales, you'll soon run out of customers.
