Tesla sued after fatal crash, accused of making “unreasonably dangerous” car

I'll be snarky and say that the speed limit on the Interstates in Wyoming and eastern Montana is 80mph. So 70 is a problem. :D

Natural gas is now getting in the way; US carbon emissions increase by 3.4%

Electrification of the railroads was the most expensive option to move freight on the tracks. Most of the electrification started out as smoke abatement initiatives in the cities. The Pennsy electrified due to smoke abatement in the NY, NJ, DC areas and they extended it to Harrisburg as it...

Urban farms could be incredibly efficient—but aren’t yet

There's been a fair amount of talk about turning some of the large tracts of empty lots into urban farms (among other things) in Detroit. There aren't any grocery stores deep within the city and the farms are seen as a way to provide fresh produce which is much healthier than what the residents...

Facebook “partner” arrangements: Are they as bad as they look?

I'd like to think that, but how many people actually pore over the EULA before clicking on 'I accept'? And if I do, how many people actually understand all the crap that's included in the EULA? I'd think most of the people here on Ars might be inclined to read the EULA, but how many in the end...

DC sues Facebook over Cambridge Analytica scandal

Perhaps. But they might just declare bankruptcy, like the Boy Scouts and USA Gymnastics. I think they've declared bankruptcy to protect themselves from the ongoing lawsuits, the latteris being sued over the Nasser scandal.

DC sues Facebook over Cambridge Analytica scandal

Agreed. I comment on my local paper's site regularly. Then they wanted a Facebook account first. I made up an account, which worked for awhile before FB decided I was a fake person and wanted me to prove I was a real person (like send them an image of some kind of government ID with the...

Google Chrome wants to stop back button hijacking

This is on Firefox, but there have been times where I right-clicked the back button while on a page and the drop down list shows a dozen or more of the same entries as the entry I am on. And then hitting the back button normally does nothing as there's just too many entries to back out of. One...

Report: Marvel Studios begins work on Shang-Chi film adaptation

A guy on my floor in the dorm left after the semester and he gave me all of his, so while I didn't go through a few dozen, I probably read at least a dozen. And I remember just skipping chapter 2 and went directly to chapter 3; saved reading time!

Report: Marvel Studios begins work on Shang-Chi film adaptation

You mean like how they cast Joel Grey as the Korean Master Chiun in Remo Williams, The Adventure Begins? I was a big fan of the Destroyer paperbacks, but this version of Chiun really messed up my vision of it. :(

Report: Marvel Studios begins work on Shang-Chi film adaptation

One of the things I wish I still had was a printout of a list of the top Hong Kong martial arts actors during the Golden Harvest/Shaw Brothers era and beyond. It was a printout of a listing that was on a website I found in the '90s, and there were names of actors who had the bit parts in many...

Report: Marvel Studios begins work on Shang-Chi film adaptation

I think he predated Iron Fist. I think I bought Shang Chi, Master of Kung Fu #1 when it first came out. It was a comics version of the martial arts films of the time, though it was later on in the genre. I bought a few issues plus a giant special while I was in college in the late 70s. Iron...

Valve reveals just how many PC gamers plug in gamepads—and which kinds

I use one of these: https://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/ ... on-tabular The ball is controlled by the middle finger of the right hand. Button #1 is the index finger. Button #2 is the ring finger. The little buttons are buttons 3 and 4. Been using one since at least Call of Duty 2, which...

Looks interesting. Might have to try that.

Valve reveals just how many PC gamers plug in gamepads—and which kinds

Or gaming keypad and trackball combo. That's what I like when I'm playing the FPSs. The only game I've tried using a gamepad was Halo, which came with the Xbox360 when I bought mine. I decided it wasn't for me when I encountered my first enemy and shot all my ammo at it without a single hit...

Valve reveals just how many PC gamers plug in gamepads—and which kinds

For the shooters I generally play, I won't ever use a game pad. For the flying, driving, or sports games, I can go with a gamepad. This is the reason I never buy a shooter for my Xbox. It only gets the sports games, driving and flying games. Plus the other fun stuff, like pinball.

Potential buyers for largest coal plant in the Western US back out

Sorta like the Rods to the Hogshead measurement. :)

Potential buyers for largest coal plant in the Western US back out

Yes. From what I've read, it looks like the plant was established to provide power to the region. Probably as an aside, it was located on the Nation grounds to provide jobs that weren't there to begin with, including the coal mine, and income for the tribe. Seems to be win-win, and it seems...

Potential buyers for largest coal plant in the Western US back out

They probably do, but this plant goes back to the 70s as a federal project. Getting out of it is probably what they want to do, but what to replace it with that employs that many of the tribe I presume is problematical. And the feds aren't involved with the repurposement, I don't think. At...

Potential buyers for largest coal plant in the Western US back out

Same here, but I'm thinking the majority of the Navajos employed there will not find other jobs unless it's actually on the reservation like the plant and the mine are. It doesn't seem to me there's a lot of opportunities out there.
