    FS: Fitbit Charge HR

Fitbit Charge HR black - large $40 It's been sitting on a shelf as I just prefer to wear my regular watch. I purchased it to track my steps during a long vacation in Europe (I took a lot of steps!) and it's basically been unused since. http://beerology.com/view.cfm?ID=1011

    Why can't (won't?) Apple make a quad 13"?

I had a maxed out 13" MBP for awhile. I found its dual-core 3.1ghz CPU and the integrated graphics to be annoyingly underpowered. I liked the ultra portability of that small thing but it just was frustrating to use. Video playback would stutter if you were using the retina screen in "more space"...

Mac Pro 2018: Dangerously Close To xMac

8x28 = 224. So... you will be able to build a 224 core machine? Holy crap. Well, not Apple obviously. I always thought the move from dual sockets to single sockets with the trash can was part of the problem. By limiting to single socket, they ended up with more expensive options to get the same...

Network speed: My 2009 Mac Mini smokes 2013 Mac Pro? What?

Whoah! I thought the Mac Pro was connecting via AFP but it was connecting through SMB after all. Holy crap what a huge difference that makes. I disabled SMB singing and it had no real effect. Still abysmal. I forced it to connect with AFP and it's now reading and writing at over 100MB/sec...

Network speed: My 2009 Mac Mini smokes 2013 Mac Pro? What?

Sorry, I was tired when I made the initial post. The macs are connected via AFP Mac Pro: Write 42.1MB/sec Read 51.8MB/sec Mac Mini: Write: 106.9MB/sec Read: 114.8MB/sec Tried using SMB on the Mac Pro, got even worse results. Write: 28.7MB/sec Read: 25.4MB/sec Mini: en0...

Network speed: My 2009 Mac Mini smokes 2013 Mac Pro? What?

I've discovered something disturbing with my network. And that's that my Mac Mini is more than twice the speed of my 2013 Mac Pro. 2009 Mac Mini is running OSX Yosemite 2013 Mac Pro is running Mac OS Sierra Both are connected to a Cisco managed gigabit switch. Synology NAS running latest DSM...

Gabe Newell confirms “new IP” coming from Half-Life/Portal universe

This is the process of any creative collaborative project. If you are the director of a movie, you may start out with a grand vision of what your movie is going to be. Then you set your cast, who may not be perfect. Then things don't go as planned on set. The studio limits your money and time...

    2016 15" MacBook Pro impressions [2017 discussion begins pg19]

So far, knock on wood, I haven't had any problems with my 15. Guy in seat next to me on a plane the other day had one and said it was great except that he had keys on the keyboard stop working. He took it to an Apple Store and they swapped it. He had the replacement for less than 2 days and...

    Withdrawn fro Ars

It's model A1633. http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/#iphone ... ne-6s-plus So Apple lists a different model for Sprint/Verizon but the only difference as far as I can tell is that the 1633 supports an additional band? All of the radio bands on the other model are supported by the 1633 so I don't...

I don't know anyone who has Sprint but I borrowed a Verizon sim and placed a call with it. I will post the exact model number as soon as I get home.

Sale was pending to a fellow Arsian but is in the process of cancelling. Tis this season of forgiving, I guess. So it's still for sale. I was going to sell my old iPhone6, but fixed the screen first. Calibration failed and Apple swapped it for a brand new 6s. So this is a unused (except to...

    2016 15" MacBook Pro impressions [2017 discussion begins pg19]

IF you're like me and you generally own at least two power adapters per laptop (one for home, one for work, no daily power strip hassle climbing under desks) then you want a second one. I bought another 87w adapter for $79 and was astonished to find it didn't come with a cable of any kind...

    2016 15" MacBook Pro impressions [2017 discussion begins pg19]

So to get a complete power adapter for the new MBP to match what was bundled of old, you have to get the 87 power brick ($79) + the extension cable ($19) + USB C power cable ($29).... so $127. Niiiiice.

    2016 15" MacBook Pro impressions [2017 discussion begins pg19]

2016 Macbook Pro 15" won't boot it its own Recovery partition. So in addition to no OS update being available to make another copy of Mac OS bootable currently, the Recovery partition doesn't even boot on these things.

    2016 15" MacBook Pro impressions [2017 discussion begins pg19]

I received mine today. 15" maxed out in Space Grey. A couple of quick impressions: 1. It will not boot from a cloned hard drive off of my 13" MBP. It just gives a "NO" symbol. Is there some kind of special version of Mac OS required? Why can I not boot an external drive? It was a USB 3 drive...
