Does OSX even support 10b/channel output?

    OS X 10.9 Mavericks

Yes 3132. My card was made by Lacie. Their driver from here wasn't rejected when I installed it in 10.9 and my drives are accessible: http://www.lacie.com/us/support/drivers ... m?id=10127 The driver I had installed was apparently older than that, or 10.9 didn't reject it when reinstalled. At...

    OS X 10.9 Mavericks

My Silicon Image eSATA card in my Mac Pro doesn't work in 10.9. That's pretty great. edit: Nevermind LaCie had a newer version of the driver that 10.9 seems ok with.

What is the "baseline" that Apple is comparing performance against? It's not exactly clear on that site.

Sure, but the total quantity of lanes available is only relevant info if there's not enough to fulfill what is included in the box since there's literally no way to utilize any that's left over. -K

I like how they mentioned 40 PCI Express 3 lanes. Why should I care? There's no slots with which to utilize them.

    The Federal Shutdown Drama

We're getting to that already, with a minority in 1/2 of 1/3 of government trying to override the rest through ransom.

Mac Pro Discussion (2013 version and earlier)

I'm wondering what "later this year" means. It used to say fall right? The first day of winter is December 21st. Does that mean new Mac Pro for Christmas? Or is it going to be so late in fall that people will be thinking it's winter so better to remove "fall" from the expectations. If it's not...

    The Federal Shutdown Drama

So the Republican GOP strategy is: Refuse to continue funding the government (one of the few things they kind of have to do) unless ransom demands are met. The Democrats don't feel like giving in to ransom demands, and the GOP whines that it's all the Democrat's fault for not "negotiating."...

More Thunderbolt goodies starting to surface

Is the promise Pegasus still the only external raid5 option in thunderbolt town? Has the price on that thing actually come down at all since it came out? Lacie now has their 5big series but they have no raid5. If I'm to be forced to go to external only storage options then I really hope this...

I'm just waiting for Apple to say there will be no boot camp for this custom machine.

Mac Pro Discussion (2013 version and earlier)

This is basically the Final Cut X method of redesigning a Mac Pro right? Make a new product very different from old product. Ignore high end features (who needs more than 12 cores or slots?) and watch as lots of new previously not "pro" users buy the machine to make up for the real high end...

Mac Pro Discussion (2013 version and earlier)

If there's a flash socket on the underside of the one GPU, why not the other one too? Having just one drive is pretty ridiculous. I hope they at least offer more flash drives.

Mac Pro Discussion (2013 version and earlier)

So perhaps Apple never updated to the current generation of processors with the Mac Pro so that they could avoid offering a 16 core option, then backtracking down to 12 cores max with the next gen xeons. "12 cores ought to be good enough for anyone" - Apple

How much would external GPUs choke under the bottleneck of thunderbolt2? Thunderbolt2 is basically like a x4 PCIe 2.0 slot or x2.5 PCIe 3.0 slot, right? Nevermind what other stuff you'd have to share that bandwidth with given that you'll probably need external storage. I have 8TB internal...

Mac Pro Discussion (2013 version and earlier)

Mac Pro Mini. It's like an old Mac Pro, except it sounds like there's only one CPU and no internal expandability (or likely upgradability) whatsoever. How many RAM slots do you think are in that thing? I woudn't be suprrised if you couldn't even upgrad the RAM. Oh I'm just overjoyed at the...

    WWDC 2013 speculation

The "We Want A New Macpro" page on facebook posted a funny photo of a black cube, basically, purporting to be a new Mac Pro with dual GPUs and Thunderbolt 2. "gigantic graphics power and file transfers in a zip" it says. Because that's the kind of language Apple uses, right? Amusing for a moment.

    WWDC 2013 speculation

Actual rendering can be done on a renderfarm setup. Simulating fluids and smoke, etc. (Houdini, Realflow, FumeFX) cannot and benefit massively from having more cores, since you are confined to a single machine. So more cores = better. We'll see if Apple wants to even have the option availbe or...

    WWDC 2013 speculation

You're not alone. If you can't get a 16 core version of the new mac pro it will be a huge disappointment to me. I don't think a "Mac Mini Pro" would accommodate more than one CPU socket. I use a 16-core machine at work and this is what I'm looking for at home to replace my aging 2008 8-core pro...
