Twitter labels NPR “state-affiliated media,” contradicting its own policy

This seems a wildly inappropriate prejudice. What do afrikaners (a group of 3million people) have to do with this dude?

Publishers beat Internet Archive as judge rules e-book lending violates copyright

There was an interesting NPR Planet Money about libraries and ebooks, and I found it insightful (e.g., why should an ebook expire after a certain number of reads? Turns out hard copy books do the same, through wear-and-tear!). View...

Taking a walk on the random side helps Mexican jumping beans find shade

Cool article, but a random walk "maximizes the likelihood of success" in the same way that randomly mashing a keyboard maximizes the likelihood of writing a best-seller. Given temporal constraints (such as moving shadows) a guided strategy should easily beat an open-loop random walk. Of course...

Google to SCOTUS: Liability for promoting terrorist videos will ruin the Internet

I had to laugh out loud when I read this defense by Google. Are they saying that their efforts to counter the problem is to say to uploaders "please don't be a terrorist"? Seems a stretch to say that this is "already working" on the problem...

Rolls-Royce tests hydrogen-fueled aircraft engine in aviation world first

The problem is that aircraft emit way up high; while our ability to capture CO2 is very low to the ground. The atmosphere doesn't mix well, so e-fuels aren't a silver bullet either.

COVID vaccines will still be “free,” despite 400% price hike, Pfizer CEO says

FWIW, I've lived in multiple countries across three continents, and the US system has been the least stressful for me. Single datapoint, yes, but contradicts your thesis so one datapoint should suffice.

DuckDuckGo’s Android anti-tracking tool offers stronger third-party protections

There's an older app (fully open-source, too!) called TrackerControl, which I think does the same thing. I've been using it for ages, and it seems to work very well -- https://f-droid.org/packages/net.kollnig.missioncontrol.fdroid/

Musk tells Twitter staff: Agree to work “long hours at high intensity” or quit now

For all the problems with US immigration -- kids born in the US are simply americans (it's in the constitution!), it's irrelevant what the status of their parents is. There's no "by all accounts". Of course, this doesn't help the parents, who may still face deportation in spite of their...

Lenovo gets litigious, makes Framework redesign its 3D-printable motherboard case

For what it's worth, the name Ubuntu means something like "I am because we are" or "the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_philosophy or the inimitable Desmond Tutu -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GaiKX5VdfVE ).

Indie devs outraged by unlicensed game sales on GameStop’s NFT market

Side note -- "Fiat money", according to wikipedia, "is a type of currency that is not backed by any commodity such as gold or silver". In other words, bitcoin/ethereum/whatever shitcoin *is* fiat money (inasmuch as it can be considered money), since it's backed by no commodity. We should just...

Email client K-9 Mail will become Thunderbird for Android

I'm not sure, but I get update notifications quite frequently.

Email client K-9 Mail will become Thunderbird for Android

Yes, thunderbird + oauth2 works for me. I remember it being slightly annoying to set up, but it now works well.

Email client K-9 Mail will become Thunderbird for Android

Check out "fairemail"; it is open-source, and works with Oauth (I don't think K9 does, which is why I switched). For Oauth, you need fairemail via playstore, not f-droid. Edit -- no affiliation beyond being a satisfied user.

In letter to Twitter, Musk threatens to kill merger deal over spam data

Wow, if the stock trades at $39, and he can be forced to buy at $54.20 a share, that hurts to the tune of $12Bn. Alternatively, the market is willing to bet $12Bn that Musk can't be forced to buy at the agreed upon price?

Twitter board tells Elon Musk: We will not alter the deal

Why "apartheid"? I think he's an idiot, to be clear, but I'm assuming that you're labeling him "apartheid" because he's white, of a certain age, and from South Africa? Isn't that the definition of racism on your side (would you have called him Captain Apartheid if he weren't white?). There's...

“Black widow” neutron star takes an hour to orbit the star it’s roasting

What is meant by "radiation"? Is this EM radiation (light), or particle radiation (or everything together)?

Can you clarify what is meant by megaton? Is this in TNT? How much is this in W?

So long Wordle—Knotwords is my new daily word game obsession

A recommendation: Squardle. Also free, and a new twist combining a crossword (first time takes a while to parse the rules). Allows some interesting strategy, as correct letters are saved even if the word is wrong. ETA: https://fubargames.se/squardle/
