Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

Is David Lynch attached in any way? Because that’s so his vibe.

Nonprofit scrubs illegal content from controversial AI training dataset

That seems categorically different to me. If the model has CSAM in the training data, then any CSAM it produces is essentially revictimizing the original kids in the training CSAM. It’s a sort of fruit of the poisonous tree argument, and there’s some merit to it. If there is no genuine CSAM in...

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

Is this an actual process, or a euphemism for burning the place to the ground? Because either seems reasonable in this context.

Sunrise alarm clock didn’t make waking up easier—but made sleeping more peaceful

It can change with age. I was very nocturnal in my late teens/early twenties, and now, in my mid forties, I'm the complete opposite; I wake up at sunrise and struggle to stay awake after sunset. February is a rough time for me.

It also isn't "Hide on 20 downvotes". It's "Hide on 20 downvotes and 0 upvotes". One can find visible posts with hundreds of downvotes all over Ars, because those posts also attract some upvotes. So it's ultimately a trash filter rather than a dissent filter. It's honestly not hard to not get...

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

In total across the industry, or the number of times it inspects a given facility per year? I'm not sure any of that data is going to be straightforward or easy to find (I wish FRED covered noneconomic stats), but looking for the wrong data will definitely not help. Ok, I must be interpreting...

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

For some reason when I hear "heavy meat residue", I think "heavy water". I would assume they're equally appetizing.

The absolute worst comments are the back seat editorial comments second-guessing Ars's demesne. If you aren't interested in a story, don't click it. Or do you have a personal financial interest in this story not being wildly covered? Are you a dirty shill? (like there's any other kind of shill)

If you only eat steak 3-5 times a year, it becomes very easy to justify buying really high quality steak. And it's so, so, soooo worth it. My quarterly ribeye reliably produces tears of joy.

Sunrise alarm clock didn’t make waking up easier—but made sleeping more peaceful

I have a dumb light alarm for the winter months and I'm never going back to an audio alarm. It's far more pleasant to wake up because the room is bright than it is because there's an annoying alarm tone (or worse: I use a song I like and end up not liking that song anymore).

German warship floats down Thames while playing Darth Vader’s theme

Between the Asterix and Obelix strips and all the Roald Dahl I read as a kid, I frequently clashed with my primary school teachers over the proper spelling of words like color/colour.

Didn’t the Francs push the Gauls out? Or was that one also Rome’s fault?

Autonomous Teslas still a pipe dream in Boring Company tunnels

Imagine needing to colonize and oppress an entire subcontinent just to gain an edible cuisine. Although I guess it's a better reason than a lot of wars have been fought over.

Thank you for this. I'm so cracking this out the next time my friend in Sheffield whinges because I said "zucchini" or "cilantro" instead of "courgette" or "coriander".

And you're layering the UK's delectable slang on top. I sometimes wonder if you folks have some of the same problems we do and just appear not to because we can't understand you. For all we know, for every jackass who leaves his gun in a walmart bathroom here, you could have some berk leaving...
