Rust in Linux lead retires rather than deal with more “nontechnical nonsense”

Did you make a mistake in this paragraph, or has my C/C++ knowledge rusted (kek) away to nothing at all? == is comparison and = is assignment, yes? Your example code is !=, not ==, so I'm leaning towards typo, but please lay my confusion to rest.

Rust in Linux lead retires rather than deal with more “nontechnical nonsense”

Using Rust for CRUD seems like using an ICBM to kill a fly. It'll work, but it's considerably more complicated and powerful than necessary.

Starlink reluctantly blocks X in Brazil, vows to keep fighting asset freeze

I can't help but think "we're banning TikTok until China stops banning Facebook" would have landed very differently with the public. I mean, I don't necessarily think it's a good idea or likely to be effective, but it's considerably more justifiable on the merits than the vague Yellow Peril...

Starlink reluctantly blocks X in Brazil, vows to keep fighting asset freeze

It's like how jailing serial killers is punishing people for having hobbies.

Starlink reluctantly blocks X in Brazil, vows to keep fighting asset freeze

Was his incitement of the folks who were angry at refugees because a Welsh kid stabbed some people not sufficient for criminal charges the next time he sets foot on Britannia?

Movie industry touts takedown of “world’s largest” pirate streaming ring

Precisely. The righsholders (rarely the actual artist) screwed the consumer over and over simply because they could. So when consumers got the means to retaliate because they could, they did. Turnabout is always fair play. The copyright regime brings piracy upon itself.

Rust in Linux lead retires rather than deal with more “nontechnical nonsense”

Pla Planck’s Principle applies far more widely than its namesake appreciated.

Unpatchable 0-day in surveillance cam is being exploited to install Mirai

And on top of all that, MAC spoofing is also a thing. It’s a nice idea but unfortunately not feasible.

Autonomous Teslas still a pipe dream in Boring Company tunnels

I just made an appointment for my 4th or 5th brake job on my car. 32k miles, and I don't ride the brake (I think Subaru let Jony Ive spec the pads). I am a lot envious.

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

And just for the record, I went through the 19 post history of the goober who started this whole tangent, and it appears to be something of a habit. About half of those 19 posts are similarly buried complaints about an article existing. I just don't get the mindset. Ars posts a fair number of...

Movie industry touts takedown of “world’s largest” pirate streaming ring

It also isn't clear from the article whether they actually got their hands on any of that infrastructure or if they simply got control of fmovies' DNS records. I've heard rumors that it's already back on a new URL, but I have no way of evaluating whether it's the same people or a different group...

Nonprofit scrubs illegal content from controversial AI training dataset

Can you elaborate on the specifics of bad, or link to an explanation? I'm very curious on the particulars. Does it double down on the quirks of genAI (even more bonus fingers!) or does it end up producing completely incoherent noise? Sometimes "bad" systems produce really cool results.

Autonomous Teslas still a pipe dream in Boring Company tunnels

Since it's all a predefined, single directional route, couldn't they place some sort of metal guides down? It would make it really easy to keep the car on track. I know it's an extremely novel concept, but it might work.

Sunrise alarm clock didn’t make waking up easier—but made sleeping more peaceful

It's the other way round in my experience: smelling the coffee is what wakes me up. Besides, overpriced gadgets of dubious worth are really more of a thing with the older crowd that has the disposable income for such nonsense.

Blood puddles, mold, tainted meat, bugs: Boar’s Head inspections are horrifying

As evidenced by how much of this thread has been given over to discussion of the voting system, Arsians' habit of downvoting to oblivion all comments about the voting system is really justified. I'm just at a loss for how we dropped the ball so badly here.

Nonprofit scrubs illegal content from controversial AI training dataset

I don’t disagree with any of that. I was addressing the very real possibility that a model completely and utterly devoid of training CSAM could still output pedo images. The notion of a tainted model is statistically dubious as you say, but the fact remains that the model is utilizing images of...

My niblings (ages 5 and 8) love broccoli. It turns out the trick to getting kids to eat broccoli is threefold: 1) Use fresh broccoli 2) Roast it 3) Call it “Hulk trees”
