I feel like these lawsuits are a legalized vigilante justice. It is better than no justice, but lawsuits over copyright only work for so long. Even copyright eventually runs out. In the mean time, the lawyers win, and everyone else gets a check for $3.22. Something tells me it would be better if this was a problem Congress took on.
… if we had a reasonable congress interested in the welfare of the citizenry, which we do not.
In the long term, I think the US will need to find a way to support itself in some way which does not involve an income tax on human labor. There may not be any paid human labor to tax. It also may need a greatly increased budget if we are contemplating UBI. Somehow, the only money earners left in the system will have to pay for it all, and for that to happen Congress will have to stop being at their beck and call. You can see the difficulty.
