I was in the market for a new car in 2011 and test drove a 2008 RX-8 and 2007 Mustang GT back to back. I did not like the RX-8's engine, you had to rev the damn thing to the moon to make any kind of power and to get it to hustle, basically a lot of work. The Mustang with it's v8 on the other hand had a ton of grunt starting right at 2k RPM and continued to push hard till 5.5-6k RPM by which time you were doing well over triple digits. The latter was far more fun to drive IMO and sounded just glorious. While cool, it really messes up one of my favorite explainers for how rotary engines work. (I still would like to drive an RX-7 or RX-8 in anger someday.)
