So can legos. So can an actual sandbox. So can a blank peice of paper and a pile of markers / glue / scissors. So can a camera (not the POS on a cellphone).
Practicing a creative activity that one is focused on regularly -- REGARDLESS OF THE MEDIUM -- will ultimately help creativity develop in the brain for that discipline.
Sorry but this grad student / ex-pro gamer thesis isn't telling us anything that hasn't already been studied. They simply applied the pre-existing logic to Minecraft since nobody bothered to "do a study on minecraft" specifically. Wherer there was no need to.
But it does show that anyone with a half-assed idea that piggybacks off of previous results can goto grad school.
