Trump administration attempt to gut Endangered Species Act hits roadblock

Gotta be a sick joke...
I doubt it. I saw a quote from Ron DeSantis a couple months ago stating how he is proud of his record of passing legislation that among other things sticks it to liberals. Imagine using taxpayer resources to purposely pass legislation that is designed to punish many of your citizens for no other reason than because the way they vote.

They were going to hold the vote on Earth Day.

That would be like trying to repeal the 13th amendment on Juneteenth.

Subhuman cocksuckers.
Not subhuman. Regular humans doing what regular humans have done since we cleared the first forest.

Admitting that is the only way to be better going forward as a species. You know, if we make it much longer.

Obligatory quote by Carl Sagan:

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

Nah, I like Subhuman Cocksuckers better. It's way more fitting.

Will there ever be a time when humans don't speedrun destroying the environment?

I don't care whether it's a full on nuclear war or giant asteroid; the human animal needs to be erased.
Yes. When we remove republicans from office and corporate lobbyists from existence, and issue very real punitive measures that aren’t just fines. I severely hate lobbyists.

It's all about oil. So much of what this asshat does can be traced back to oil.
In a perfect world: In retaking leadership in the midterms, with a further change of administration two years after, every single thing these monsters did not only needs to be reversed, it needs to be taken three or four steps in the other direction. And hardened against future corruption.

I think you've probably missed some of the happenings over the last year and a half of these Subhuman Cocksuckers. That is all, goodbye.
Everything imagined that a demon could do, a human has done worse. Humans may behave monstrously, they are no less human than Mother Theresa... oh, wait...

It’s really not, and thinking some people are special evil gremlins and not just, you know, humans doing what humans do is exactly how we got here and keep doing it.

Yeah I just don't get it. Look outside, see how brown the air is? MOAR COAL!!! Can't drink the water MORE CHEMICALS!. Nature? BURN IT DOWN FOR PROFIT!!

WTF is wrong with this species is beyond me.

The Florida Everglades ecosystem alone hosts dozens of endangered and threatened species, including manatees, Florida panthers and many birds. It also contributes more than $30 billion annually to real estate, tourism and other parts of the local economy, a recent report estimated.

What a sad statement on the limited vision of American policymaking that any assertion of environmental value must include a dollar figure before it can be taken seriously.

Or, y'know, when a specific group of people try to do something especially awful we can not run cover for them with shit like this. That's always an option.

Although I am personally all for towing certain people beyond the environment. You know the place, where there is nothing out there. Except some sea. And 20,000 tonnes of crude oil. And fire.

The specific group of people in question were put in power to do this by a democratic election of their peers. It's not running cover to admit that human beings do things they're incentivized to do by other humans and not demons or aliens or something other that can eat our sins for us.

There are people who are more good than others, and there are Subhuman Cocksuckers like Trump and pals, people who are more bad than others.

You people on here are being kinda weird.
Excuse me, I figure most Arsians were "kinda weird"! 😝

BTW what do you think I intended with "no less human than Mother Theresa... oh, wait"?

I've already been beaten to it, but... seriously? Are they trying to be Captain Planet villains?
Who looked at the calendar and decided that Earth Day would be the best possible time to gut the endangered species act?
Republicans have been trying to roll back environmental protections for decades, but the psychopaths in the administration add a dash of cruelty to every odious thing that they do. It captures Trump's attention and their base loves it.

I was going to say if only the Oil Platforms were visible from Mar-a-Lago (like his hated Wind Energy Capture Devices) he would have something different to say about it ruining his view but he probably enjoys looking at them as a mark of American prosperity.
I doubt Trump really cares about American prosperity except as a source of bribes/contributions to his political slush fund.

~38% of the country sees this and continues to say "yeah, 'Murica!, suck it libs" or whatever. It's a pillar of the political "ideology".

An important lesson to take from this is that we need to be looking for common cause with more right wing elements on environmental issues. I see two main elements here. First we need to highlight the very real economic benefits of environmental regulations (such as tourism). These regulations aren’t just a drain some annoying roadblock to economic growth.

Also, right leaning groups such as farmers and hunters are very passionate about conserving the environment for ethical use by future generations.

They can look for common cause with us, if they wish. I am done extending olive branches.

We have highlighted that. We have not highlighted that. We have used concepts like ecosystem services and economic impact analyses and appeals to sentimentality and every other argument that can be imagined. We have, in short, made every imaginable argument in favor of conservation, in favor of climate mitigation, in favor of public lands. There is no argument against those things that is not in bad faith or in defense of exploitative resource extraction or both. It is not possible to argue with bad faith positons.
Also, right leaning groups such as farmers and hunters are very passionate about conserving the environment for ethical use by future generations.
And that instantly falls apart when it comes to climate or habitat loss, so forgive me if I find "keep the place where I like to fish exactly the same and fuck off when it comes to anything else" a little less than compelling.

In northern Minnesota we have the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. It’s over one million acres of pristine lakes and forests.

The Senate has just lifted a ban on mining near this irreplaceable jewel. So a Chilean billionaire can open copper-sulfide mines right on the border of the protected area.

The value of the clean, fresh drinking water far outweighs any value of the minerals in the area.

It is a central part of their "In Your Face" backlash against science and reason. Creationists are very eager for their mythological "Second Coming" to occur. They have been waiting for two millennia, and it is not happening fast enough, so they are assisting it. The death cult in action.

It's sort of like how if you ask Cons if they support small government non-interferrence and reduced spending they will always say yes. But when push comes to shove they actually love when the governement oversteps and overspends on the the things they think are important, mostly so long as it "owns the libs".

"You develop an instant global consciousness, a people orientation, an intense dissatisfaction with the state of the world, and a compulsion to do something about it. From out there on the moon, international politics look so petty.
