Trump FCC investigates The View, reportedly says “fake news” will be punished

You want equal time? Bring back the Fairness Doctrine, sorted. What? The Reagan administration complained of 1st Amendment issues? That is some thick irony right there.

This is a fundamentally mistaken take. Trump doesn't want the Fairness Doctrine revived, he wants to eliminate all viewpoints except his own.

I will care when Fox is subjected to this too.
The problem isn't whether Fox News would be subject to it but rather who gets to determine what counts as 'fake news' and who's supposed to be enforcing such findings. In both cases, it's the inmates running the asylum, wolves guarding the sheep, foxes in the hen house, etc -- you know, Republicans. They'd never rule against their own disinformation mouthpieces, let alone take any actions against them.

Schriftleitergesetz, brought to you by the Freedom, Freedom, Freedom Oy! Party.
Keeping in mind a short 4 years after that, most of the world was plunged into a global war that killed tens of millions.

But today, we have the technology to speed-run that, and improve the kill count by at least two orders of magnitude!

Progress!

OK, here is my issue with any of these rules/regulations/laws. They all propagate the two party system. We are never going to break free of extreme left and extreme right if those are the only two option. I feel like the middle party which would likely be fiscally conservative and socially liberal would appear to a much larger demographic that the red and blues. The libertarian part was this for a while but then they became the marijuana party.
There's no such thing as an "extreme left" in your shithole country.

Ngl, I’ve seen the NBC stream of the Olympics at least a dozen times now and I don’t get where they lowered the volume. The only real source saying it happened was the Guardian, but it’s not clear to my ears they did anything at all.
The guardian and every single continental European news media

If I was “The View”, I would have these R candidates on then bombard them with endless variations of “Why do you suck?”
It's beyond fucking time someone took a blowtorch to their feet... if it takes The View to do it - not ideal, but so be it.

What these fools consistently forget is that what goes around, comes around. When it's a Democrat led FCC investigating Fox News they're going to howl like the crazy hypocrites they are.
What are they forgetting? The Democrats haven't put up a meaningful fight since Obama, and even that was pretty weak.

Does he really want his morons on a show where the hosts ask them questions that aren't about if their great hair shows the ultimate power of the United States? I mean, yeah, The View is entertainment rather than news, but they're somewhat more fact based than most of the supposed news shows that the F-Team is brave enough to face.
Why not go one step further? Take FOX "News" as an example. Have ABC, CNN, etc. declare themselves as "entertainment", too, and Carr and FCC begone.
OK, it would be a stupid hack of a stupid system - but it feels quite adequate...

That’s not how any of this is supposed to work. The FCC’s old fairness doctrine applied to broadcast spectrum scarcity where only a few stations in an area controlled broadcast content. That’s not an issue now. Heck, my kids don’t even know what OTA television is. The youngest teen barely knows how to get “cable” channel content and really doesn’t watch it.

Opinionated talk show hosts criticizing a politician is literally the First Amendment doing its thing. And if this somehow stumbled its way to the Supreme Court of the United States, I’d love to watch the originalists try to square it. Are we really going to pretend the Framers, huddled around a couple of 1780s printing presses, envisioned a future where a politician could demand rebuttal time on a daily talk show because his feelings were hurt? Spectrum scarcity was a 20th-century regulatory compromise, not a Founding-era sacred principle.

The whole idea flips the First Amendment on its head. It protects speakers from the government, not politicians from criticism. “Equal time” for talk shows would basically mean government refereeing opinions and assuming there are two rational sides like: “Today we discuss the merits of spousal abuse…” That’s not constitutional conservatism. It’s just thin (orange) skin.

There is no such thing as “socially liberal, fiscally conservative”. If you’re unwilling to fund something, you don’t believe in it. People who say they are “socially liberal, fiscally conservative” are too timid to come out and just say they are conservative

The opposition party couldn't even prosecute a conspiracy to commit a coup that literally played out on live TV, with 4 years to do it. Republicans feel fine, because they know they won't be held accountable or have power used against them.
Agreed. Of course the political winds may well shift towards democracy and liberty someday which makes you wonder how loudly the Tories, Secessionists, MAGAts will squeal when they are facing an opposing majority?

The View and the details of this particular assault are irrelevant. What matters is that the American President and his crytpo-fascist Party of psychopath sycophants are mounting yet another offensive in their war against transparency. As a devoted anti-theist, am I still allowed to say "For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved?"

Speaking of toxic mold and other affectations, The Washington Post continues to opine that "democracy dies in darkness" (despite allowing its predator/parasite owner to censor its election coverage). Perhaps it's time Americans looked up from their big screens and recognize what grows in darkness. Tangerine Palpatine is as irrelevant as an individual as he is representative of an entire system of disease and rot. The U.S. has put an arsonist in charge of its house and watches and does nothing while its rulers moisturize their delicate under eye area with the tears of child burn victims.

So much wealth. So much power. So much self regard. So little integrity.
