Great. I have friends trying to leave florida but they can't afford to just yet. They plan to move to Huntsville Alabama, the same city as me, within the next year. Still very hot during July and August, but not too bad the rest of the year.
Yeah, speak for yourself. Sometimes I feel like I'm breathing water.

Got notified I would be receiving a mid-year 3% raise as well! Thanks to a relatively new owner of the company. They did a workshop not long ago to get feedback on how to make the company better. Employee retention was high on the list.

In my dept we have lost several key employees to competing firms in the past few years. I keep joking to my GF that I should get a bonus for every coworker I outlast. At least they seem to be trying to keep my pay competitive.

I've been self employed for years now, but need some extra income to pay for the immigration process for my fiancee. I'm also just bored with a lot of free time. I decided I wanted to get a 2nd job on saturday, went to the local asian grocery store on monday to apply, and got the job today (tuesday). Pays $12/hr and the owner is very chill. I start in ~11 hours from now, I think it will be fun.

Kinda crazy to get hired less than 24 hours after submitting an application.

I sincerely hope it works for you psychologically - "mom and pop" retail is either fulfilling or intolerable depending on what kind of people mom and pop are. Your relationships will be personal, not transactional, and that can be perilous. Knowing your story (I watched the video of you becoming an involuntary bowling pin :) ), I wish you the very best.

Do what you have to do to get where you need to go, but understand it'd take twice that money (I work in retail) to get me to even consider negotiating much less moving. It takes half again that money - where I live - to have a hope at hiring a part-timer. You must be in a much cheaper place to live.

Am pleased to be a spectator of your journey. Thank you for sharing it.

Why the fuck can't my 18 year old find a job?! 😭

Sorry, wrong thread.

My cheaper fitted sheets have the "top or bottom" labels on, well, the top or the bottom of the bed.
My more expensive fitted sheets have extra elastic bands at the corners to help keep them cinched to the mattress, and are designed for the slightly odd movements/shapes a mattrass can undergo that having a moving platform instead of boxsprings causes. Those elastic bands are color coded - same color = top or bottom. It's really damn convenient!

Either method works, but labels of some sort should be universal, regardless of size or price of the sheet. It is so damn convenient to not have to wonder, "did I put this on sideways?"

What happened today that I like? A remaster I am actually looking forward to watching was announced. (Gizmodo link). I have never seen Mask of the Phantasm, but have heard it was one of the many truly excellend WB/DC animated films that I should watch. I think I might wait...

What we had both hoped for but hardly dared say out loud seems to be happening and we may have a bidding war on our house. The realtor called last night and he's got several offers at asking price and above. So on his advice the word is gone out that everyone has until 5pm Monday to submit their best offer and we'll decide then.

It's weird to advertise something for a price then hold out for more, but that's real estate I guess.

It was included in the Batman the Animated Series Blu Ray set. Looked good in 1080p!
Normally I wouldn't take anything io9 days without a lethally large helping of salt, but I have to agree with them...Mask of the Phantasm is the best Batman movie, followed closely by the Batman Beyond movie.

(Idly wonders what would have happened if Bruce Timm had been approached and interested in the DCU...)

Man, if DC/WB had approached Timm and Dini to be their version of Kevin Feige, to shepherd a shared and cohesive DCU? The possibilities...
Well, we'll never know. But it could have been awesome.

The sheets I have have stripes that run top to bottom. Makes life super easy.
We have sheets with a floral pattern on them which is easily identifiable for 'right side up'. The non-fitted sheet has that little stitch/hem about 10cm from the top that kinda looks like it's partially folded over. Unfortunately, due to what I don't know, that stitch/hem is at the wrong end of the sheet and the floral pattern is upside down. 🤦

Thing that I like: Went for a walk Ms Cognac and Little Miss Cognac today. Didn't get rained on, and managed to get a couple of kms in. Starting to really feel like our own little family.

I bought some stick on film to make a window opaque. That too has a floral pattern which is easily identifiable for 'right side up'.

To be honest, the photo even with trimming and post processing still was nowhere near what the reality was in quality. Camera dynamic range is not up to the task IMHO.
Unfortunately, RGB will never be up to the task of sunsets. Even if our cameras and displays can manage the dynamic range of the scene, RGB can't hit the color space edges needed for most of our sunsets.

I love that stuff. So much classier than the opaque windows you can purchase for bathrooms and such. And there is also one that does the 2-way mirror thing, too.
One thing that's cool about that particular film, it's got little prisms in it and the sun is full on it in the mornings. We get all sorts of coloured spots over the walls and stairs!

More generally, why buy opaque glass when you can have that stuff, change it out or remove it easily? We have a stained glass one in the Great Hall. Everyone loves them.

Very nice. I have some windows that I want to do stained glass on, but they catch the evening sun. :)

I ve finally conquered the neurosis against blocking my ears while outdoors, and Pixel Buds Pro arrive tomorrow. Of course, now I have to learn how to use the damn things and how to play music on Android. I'll just ask a kid. :p
Tip: When they're in your ears, you can tap one to play/pause. I have the non-pro ones and have really liked them.

I don't know if they have them but my Jabra earbuds have a mode called hear through that I find helps a lot with the paranoia over the lack of situational awareness. Even then I tend to only use one anyway.

If it helps, I use VLC for Android to play back local files. The built in audio player on my Pixel 6 has to re-index local files every time it opens. Takes forever. I'm sure the upgraded version, that has a monthly fee works better, but fuck that.

The Pixel Buds Pro do have a hear through mode like the Jabra, but I've never used it on mine.
